I just had another adventure with the utility locate gawds, fickle things.
The number one rule to remember when dealing with buried utilities is that you are guilty and will never be proven innocent. If there's a doubt in your mind consider all the bad things that have happened recently in corporate America and how many of them involved public utilities. Now think about how many were punished appropriately.
If they can get away with that what chance do you think you have against them. They made sure the laws were written for their benefit.
I called in to DIGTESS, official State of Texas locator service, the twenty sixth of May for utility locates because I wanted to start digging post holes the twenty ninth.
I was involved in IronFest from the twenty ninth thru the first of June. Second of June I still didn't have Verizon and the local electric co-op located. Verizon was an inconvenience but the electric co-op involved a line crisscrossing the fence line with fourteen thousand four hundred volts just wanting a meaningful relationship with Iris and me.
While I was away at lunch the third co-op's locator came in and did one half way sorry locate. I called in when I got back and had one snot slinging fit. It was a genuine bugger blaster.
The request called for a total property locate, two secondarys, one primary. He'd missed one secondary and the primary, fourteen thousand lonely volts wanting to dance, he'd marked with a flag every thirty feet or so.
About the third person I talked to at the co-op informed me that their locator had made a mistake. I counter explained that I knew about mistakes, made them all the time. This wasn't a mistake. This was someone not understanding the gravity of the situation (my butt) and not giving a hoot about doing their job. We agreed a supervisor should show up at my location the next day.
Here's the original locate. Please note all the non existing flags and paint. We're only dealing with fourteen thousand plus volts.
