Utility Tractors Made in India

I don't know about Jinma, but MTZ (Belarus) are built that way on purpose so that they can be fixed in the field. I'd not be adverse to using a MTZ tractor at all, here in Canada Parts aren't a problem and I don't think in the US either. They've streamlined a lot parts delivery, in addition since they all use the same parts what fits in one will fit in 'tother.

MTZ / Belarus original OEM parts are available from USA and Canada warehouses, for most tractors sold in the last 50 years in North America. For new tractors or parts for new/old models see MTZ Equipment Ltd. | Official distributor of Minsk Tractor Works of Belarus in USA/Canada

Most utility tractors are made in India because India still makes what used to be the most common size farm tractor.

The original OEMs like International Harvester, Massey Ferguson, John Deere, Ford all had plants in India because Indian law wouldn't allow import of farm tractors...so they built the US/UK design machines in India.

Those tractors that were "new" in the 60s/70s etc were still being built in India long after every where else stopped. Different market, small farms.

Mahindra still sells a tractor based on the IH B-414 from the 1960s.

I was ready to buy a flat top fendered Deere E series based on the simplicity of the design. Didn't make a deal on one though.

Exactly! I don't think they are bad units at all, but we seem to distrust anything not made here, I remember when Kubota 1st came into the market and everyone was saying....japanese crap, won't last more then a couple of years, we know better now. Tata of India owns Jaguar-LandRover, the turks are manufacturing very good tractors for the 2 & 3 world, the chinese are going to Europe with their tractors, either made in China or european made, but owned by the chinese yet we are overcomplicating our own machinery to the point that one will need an IT degree to operate a tractor. Where is my ox, I need to plow a plot! :)

Which just made two of the three slots for worst vehicles... Fiat was third...

My 4035 was built in India. Worked hard and zero issues.

I am contemplating buying a utility size tractor for my next tractor purchase within the next year or two and was wondering why so many utility size tractors are built/manufactured in India? I know not all of them are but it seems like the majority of compact tractors (30-50hp) are built by Japanese and South Korean manufacturer's and once you jump up to the utility size (50-75hp) are mostly built in India except for a few like Kubota and Kioti.

Am I seeing this wrong? Are tractors built in India/Assembled in America really a less quality tractor vs Japanese or Korean? I looked at a new 2019 Deere 5065e 4x4 the other day and it seems to be a really nice well built tractor (better than the older 5e tractors I tried out a few years ago). There is more room for your feet, no big hump in the middle, the gas pedal is placed better and the loader joystick does not bump into my knee. It is also has a 12 x 12 power reverser with telescoping links on the 3pt. They redesigned the hood and you can see around the loader a lot better. The seat and operators station feels great too. Good ergonomics. I really want to like this tractor but I have read numerous reviews that are negative towards the 5e series after purchase. The price seemed very competitive as well.

I have also looked at NH Workmaster's and Kubota's M6060/7060 and liked the Deere more but these are all very nice machines. I am going to check out the Massey's also. I am not concerned with color and have plenty of good dealers close to me. I am just going off of what I like the best so far.

If I purchase a utility size tractor I will be using it mostly for loader work, grading/pulling jobs, bush hogging and any other miscellaneous jobs I might need to get done around the property. It will be a chore tractor to handle some of the bigger jobs where my NH TC40 falls short. I am in no rush to buy but thought I would get some opinions from the great folks on TBN, especially on tractors that come out of India.

The short answer for why India is the manufacturing location for so many of the Utility class tractors is that it is the biggest market in the world for those tractors. In fact, it is one of the biggest markets for agricultural equipment in general. It also has the heavy industry to support the manufacture of those tractors and a cost basis that is allows them to be competitive in price. Utility class tractors have been coming out of India for quite a while now. It isn't a new development.

Interesting question that may lie more to our sense of culture than any mechanical appreciation. To the point, there is a link to a survey in India (2014) about customer satisfaction with tractors. Spoiler alert, John Deere came in next to last (Fourth) in India.

Please note, this post is not a sanction of the "Customer Satisfaction" survey author/approach/results. Rather, a window into why some tractors with "India" brand names may not score so well on U.S. Customer Satisfaction surveys.
