Valve screwing with my head

Not sure if taking it apart will give you a definite on the set-up. Could you perhaps ask Parker if you can post it to perhaps their valve factory and get them to tell you the spec and carry out any adaptions that can't be done yourself.

I finally got a number to the engineer (at my company)that specs these valves, I plan on giving him a call tomorrow. I still think just hooking up a garden hose and running some water thru it will give me the info I need. If it doesnt run out, with the extra port plugged, its closed center, if it runs out the extra port and not the excess port, its open center with power beyond. If the water runs out the out port and the extra port. If i plug the extra port but remove the plug and it runs out the out port, it open center. I know the a/b ports run to one hydraulic motor for forward and reverse. I should be able to shift the spool and water run out either a or b. If i connect the two a/b ports to make a loop and shift the valve, water should run out the out port. If i loop a/b,reinstall the power beyond plug, but dont plug the extra port, and shift the valve, the water should run out the out port. If I do all of those things and everything works as described, I think it would be safe to say the valve is a open center valve. Now f I leave the power beyond plug installed and plug the extra port, and water runs out the out port, I might have a problem as i am sure the reliefs should be high enough that my garden hose wouldnt dump over the reliefs back to tank. If there s some other way to double check this valve, I dont know what it would be.

Red port is out. port marked out is power beyond i. ports shift back and forth depending how the spool is shifted. to tank for no back pressure or to the next work item.

I would suggest that the red plugged port is the IN port as that looks like a relief port in the end cap.

Where are you seeing a PB adapter or port.

Can't see the side ports if any.

Why do you say that, according to this pdf file, http://www.parker.com/literature/Hy...c bulletins]/Bul HY14-2712-B1 V70 V90 DCV.pdf,, the red side port is optional. Page 4 of that file explains how the valve works as a closed center, open center, an power beyond. Unless I am reading the file wrong, it seems to me all the closed/open/power beyond options are done thru different configurations of the outlet cover. I realize the shift spool can be of a different configuration, but I know that this valve works a hydraulic motor with forward and reverse direction, which would be a proper function of a normal spool. I have changed enough hoses on this valve in the past to know that the a/b ports only run to the hydraulic motor and case drain hose back to tank. blowing air thru valve all air is exhausting thru the red port with the power beyond plug between the out port and the red side port. If the power beyond plug was removed and the side port plugged, all fluid would flow thru the out port. Anyways, I have a call into Livingston and Haven, the supplier of this valve and should have a answer pretty soon.

Not looking at the photo. Just going by the way its being described. Woods uses a similar valve on ther hoes. If its not hooked correctly the valve will fail.

JJ, you have to look inside at the bottom of the open port 1002151506.jpg. It is hard to see in the pic because you have to look straight down the port. The same plug is visible if you look n the roof of the lower port. Page 4 of the file I posted in my above post shows the plug and explains how the valve works.

I am reasonably sure this valve can be used as open center. I am still waiting for a returned phone call I may never get. Anyways, I am trying to figure out the spool options. I think it would be possible for this valve to have a 4way motorspool since it is being used to control a hyd motor. It could also be a 4way cylinder spool. Trying to figure out a way to test this. I am thinking if the valve is a motor spool, i should be able to blow air thru one work port and air exit the opposite work port. If air doesnt flow thru both ports, then the valve should have a cylinder spool. Does this sound correct?

To test if the spool is a motor spool, you have to connect a coupler hose to simulate a hyd motor on the work ports, and when you do that and blow air through the IN port, the air will now exit the OUT port.

Your flow path will be IN , exit one of the work ports, enter the other work port, and exit through the OUT port.

In neutral, flow will be through the IN port and exit the PB port.

JJ, if I'm reading you right, blow air in the in port, connect a to b port, and air will come out the out port, or in this case the power beyond port.(edit because I'm confused) I think air would flow from in port to power beyond whether or not I connect the work ports. Are you suggesting to do this and then shift the spool I think for that to happen, it would have to have flow from a to b, so air should come out one of those ports if they are not coupled together. Blowing air in either a or b, with valve in center, the air doesnt come out anywhere. This makes me think the spool can not be a motor spool because with valve in center, motor would be locked since no fluid can flow in either direction. Am I right on this?
