its skirting from the bottom of home to ground. I have seen people use brick, concrete blocks and they will usually have vents built into them. Personally I was going use metal from a old roof tear off. Just keep critters out and knock down wind chill.

Grew up in a house with a crawl space eventually my dad got it tested for radon it didn't pass he put poly over the entire dirt floored crawl space and added a few extra screened vents. It passed. Radon tests are cheap and can be bought at any big box home improvement store. My .02

When I see the term underpinning, i'm thinking having the cabin anchored to the foundation. I don't see where a vapor barrier comes into play with the term underpinning. What does underpinning mean to your insurance company?

Exactly what is “Underpinning “?
around these parts when a building is built post on pad, underpinning is the skirting that runs from the floor joists down to the ground to stop the elements or critters from getting under the building. Not for structural support but rather aesthetics, insurance and environmental reasons. Often insulated and when circulation eliminated vapour barrier becomes a concern.
