Yes, that can happen. I did the slip joint on a similar exhaust installation and it tried to get sticky and hard to remove but a little spray of WD-40 or similar before assembly made them easier to get apart later. Just don't make them too tight to begin with. Sometimes a light spray before I took them apart was needed as well.
I applied a anti seize compound to the joint. It will never get sticky or stuck, guaranteed.:thumbsup:
You are correct. It comes off literally in 2 seconds. And as a matter of fact I can check the oil with the stack in place. The hood will open wide enough to get at the dip stick.

I do have a few questions. I'm not familiar with a "mandrel" bend. What is the difference between it and a bend done at a muffler shop? Where could I get a mandrel bend? Is the bent pipe stainless? Did you have the female end of the slip joint expanded at a muffler shop and is the pipe extension standard pipe or stainless also? How long was the extension? How much bigger was the hole in the hood compared to the pipe? Lastly, I'm not familiar with the heavy vacuum tubing. Could you show a picture of it before it's cut and exactly how you cut it to fit?

Mandrel bend is a bend where the radius of the bend is constant. It is done with a special bending unit and they might even fill the pipe with sand. I bought mine off ebay but I am sure most auto shops could bring it in. My pipe is stainless but that was just by accident. It does not need to be. The pipe with the 90* bend slipped over the muffler outlet and the vertical slipped over the 90. I did not get anything expanded. The vertical did require just a little filing on the inside to get the fit I wanted but it was just 1.1/2" exhaust pipe from a muffler shop. The 90 is 1 3/8". All are o'd' measurements.
The hole in the hood is 2 1/4". Getting the hole in the hood is critical for a successful job. To do that I cut and fit the 90 to the muffler and had it vertical and placed where it needed to be. Lowered the hood onto the pipe and then traced and outline on the underside of the hood. Next I drilled a small pilot hole from the underside in the center of the outline. From there I cut the hole from the top with a metal hole saw. I could have gone to a 2 3/8" hole if I wanted but I stuck with 2.25". Filed the hole smooth, fit the tubing and dropped on the vertical pipe. 20 min to do the job and a year to get up the courage to desecrate the hood.
A tight radius bend is necessary for this installation due to the placement of the top rad hose.

Nice work x2) Mandrel bending usually involves drawing a steel ball inside the tube as it is bent which prevents the dimpling or crushing of the tube at the bend.
