Hello Everyone,

This may sound brand specific, but I think all manual tractors would be fairly similiar, I have a Mahindra 2816 and over the past couple of days it has started making a houling/rubbing noise whenever you clutch the tractor. Yesterday it started quealing very loud whenever clutched and it now does the houling rubbing noise once the clutch is released. This all started in about 1-2 hours of use. Any suggestions about what this may be. Thanks for any feedback.

Sounds like the throw out bearing is getting ready to seize, I would get it replaced before it damages anything.

I agree with Pete Judd, TripleR, and Fixemall. Throwout bearing.........break it apart and replace before it takes out the fingers on the pressure plate.

Thanks for the replies, should the throwout bearing be bad going bad at 180 hrs. Also, is this a very tough repair job, cost, etc. I'm hoping that the warrenty will cover this but i havent spoke with the dealer yet. Thanks.

Some tractors have a grease fitting for the throw out bearing. Also, may still be against the pressure plate when clutch is released. Check the free play in your clutch pedal. There may be an access plate you can remove and reach in and feel the bearing and check for a grease fitting. Hope this helps.

Short answer is no. But as with any mechanical device, it is subject to failure.

Warranty should cover it, and tractor must be split for repair.

UPDATE!

I decided to haul the tractor to my dealer, I start it up and the noise is gone! Completely gone! I'm thinking now that the dealer is going to be reluctant to break anything apart if there is no sign of anything. So I decide to just drive around and maybe it would start so I could video the noise with my phone. About 1/8 mile up the road a popping/grinding noise starts and I'm not even pressing the clutch. You could tell that it effected the engine RPM. I immediatetly stopped and put in neutral and it quit. Now what, is something breaking loose in the clutch assembly, I walked back home and loaded it on the trailer from where it stopped. Any ideas on what could be wrong this time. I dread taking it to the dealer, whos knows how long it will take to see what is wrong or "if" the warrenty will cover this problem?!?

I'd be about 99.9% sure you got a serious clutch problem based on your previous symptoms, as well the recent ones. I'd get it to the dealer asap...
