There should be a law.

Yes... I agree.

FBI and other federal law enforcement should investigage virus and malware distribuitors as if they are domestic terrorists and act accordingly.

bust down doors at night.. no nock warrants.

freeze assets. tret em like drug dealers and terrorists.

I'd be ALL for that.

I have always thought if the hackers would spend as much effort in a real business they could become rich.
I wonder if they are just young kids or are they carrying out a grudge from being fired/layed off from a related job?

I should elaborate on why it's prudent to manually create a restore point even if you don't plan on installing a new program or make changes. The trend with unscrupulous web sites lately seems to be tricking you into clicking on something that is unrelated to what it is you want to download, be it a file or program to be installed later. I"m sure everyone has seen this by now. The actual item that you want to download is relegated to a corner of the page with a small button and the malware they want you to click on and download is front and center on the page and is what you are most likely to click on. Only the small type reveals that it is something different than what you searched for. If you don't think about it for a minute, you're inclined to click without thinking. There should be a law.

Good reason to be careful where you download from. CNET/ZDNET usually has clean stuff but check it with a good AV program before opening or installing.
I think an example of what you are talking about, that is related to this site, is the free downloading of tractor manuals.
Anything that says free is very suspicious. Remember the old code generators:)
Most of the stuff folks try to download is already available on their computer in some existing program anyway; they just haven't looked for it. Real good specialized programs cost money.

Keyboard shortcuts - Microsoft Windows Help

This is the latest keyboard shortcut list for 8.1
The same keys that were used in the past haven't changed. This list is longer because of the dual function software.
I doubt if anyone has ever memorized all the shortcuts. I use a few, but am going to print this list as a guide in case
something new appears that a keyboard shortcut would be good to know.

A change on the "Search" that I find significant, is the Default "Everywhere" The Bing Search Engine tied to W 8.1 searches by default
on the internet, your computer, and your cloud, unless you tell it not too.
The "Everywhere" search includes "computer settings," "Computer Files," "Web Images," and "Web Videos" unless you apply the category filter before searching. So for the simple search to make a "Restore Point" select the "Settings" filter prior to the search and the hits will be direct.
I think this combined web, computer search was an idea borrowed from the "light in the lid boys" system. So 1 point for MAC.

So 1 point for MAC.

My wife set up a slide show presentation, matched it to her projector and made a copy in PC version for another person without a Mac while I was on the tractor. She is NOT computer literate but she does have a MAC. 2 points for Mac, without it I would have had no seat time.

Using the PC version when copying or making a DVD is the hard part for most MAC folks to realize, or even know about. There are image formats that have coding reversed and who knows what else is different.
I know from genealogy experience with folks that have MACS that a lot of them will be very disappointed if they leave behind for their descendants a DVD with their family tree on it, or even just a .ged that is in MAC version. A lot of the info will not cross the bridge if it is attempted to be opened on a pc.
It is assuming too much to think that all one's descendants will have access to a MAC computer in the future.
It is even too much to assume that future pc's will be able to handle today's media, so anything that truly needs to be archived needs other media as well, like old fashioned printing on good paper with good ink, and storage in a safe place.
Today's digital media needs to be tested from time to time and replaced with current media prior to it becoming inoperable because of aging or new playing devices not being able to read it.
Compatibility, or lack thereof, was a big factor in folks with MACs coming up with virtual PC and now MAC doing it in new equipment.

The point to remember is the Mac handled the PC stuff, it's the PC that has issues with the Mac. HS

No its, vendor lock in via propitiatory format. You can open a .ppt or .pptx file in Powerpoint, Open/Libre Office Impress, Keynote, Google Docs, etc. The same cannot be said for Keynote files, so its Mac's fault that they are not using a open format.
