I am "this close" to purchasing a new one, but maybe there is a good used one out there somewhere. Will need to arrange to ship it to to WA State.

Thanks!

Thanks for responding!

I have 12 acres of woods and trails to maintain (the recent floods mangled the trails), and 1/2 mile of steep gravel driveway to keep level (with a box blade or Dirt / Snow Blade) so that I can use PT425 or PT1450 snow-blower to maintain access (when necessary) - and to clear out under the trees with the Brush Cutter to make things look nice.

I am sitting on the fence as to whether the 425 has got the guts (in general) to do the job(s), or go bigger with the 1450.

I'm thinking the 425 can navigate better in the trails and the power be "good enough" for chores, but I'll be bummed if it ain't. :)

Go big. No replacement for displacement. These machines are super bendy so getting bigger isn’t an issue in my opinion.

A 425 only weighs about 1500#.

You mentioned 1450 above, but that isn't a current model as far as I know. 1430? 1445? 1460? 1850? Which one are we talking about? The 1430 is now a gas engine, FWIW.

Where are you located in WA? There is snow, and there is Snow. There is cold and Cold. If you are in the land of really cold and really snowy, both tractors will need oil/engine heaters for winter starts. They are hydraulic tractors and the cold oil in cold pumps is a huge drag on the starter.

I have the 1445 on 12 acres, and it does all sorts of things, really well. I don't however plow or snow plow with it. I do lots of work at just above idle. Brush hogging, rototilling, are wide open throttle. Earth moving, trenching, chipping (not a PT accessory) are medium throttle activities. 20 degree slopes are ok; higher slopes are doable, but in uneven terrain not automatically ok, as a gopher hole or a rock will make 25 degrees into 35 degrees in a heartbeat. Local conditions will govern what you can do. I do have tire chains as suggested by @SpringHollow and they make a huge difference on slick slopes. He also suggested intake preheaters which make a world of difference.

All the best,

Peter

My bad, I meant PT-425 vs. PT-1430.

Heavy snow is rare enough around here, but we got snowed in for 3 weeks with a deep-freeze recently.

I've requested a quote for the PT-1430 - go bigger, tear it up less :)
