Water in diesel

How common is it to get water in your diesel while in the tractor? It's that time of year for condensation. Hot cold hot cold. I'm losing a lot of power at the end of a tank, and blowing a lot of smoke trying to start up. Do I have more to worry about?

What color is the smoke? If it's white you may have picked up some water though the diesel may normally have a bit of white smoke just because it's cold. If the smoke is black check your air filter and air passages. If you don't have a moisture trap in your fuel line perhaps you should consider adding one.

If I'm reading this correctly, you might just be letting your tank get too low. The best way to avoid condensation is to keep your tank topped off.

No diesel engine should be without a water seperator. Without one,you are asking for trouble because sooner or later you WILL buy diesel that has water in it.

Check to see if there's a filter available for yours with a water drain valve. Like the one below.
I also have a water separator filter on my diesel storage tank. Can't be too safe.

As said keep tank top off :thumbsup: add little additive.

I had my TC33D Boomer 19 years and never seen any water in the clear filter bowl. If the OP has water, I would recommend to clean the tank and change the source of fuel.

I'll second that, and this time of year up north, add a lot of additive. Howe's is my favorite.
