water pipe uphill pressure issue?

I'm guessing that it is a 5' incline over about a 350' run. You call 5' incline a hill? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I bought my polypropylene pipe rolls at Lowes. They have it in 400' and 100' rolls. (I was wrong about saying 500') It's strong enough to drive a tractor over it, but I bury it a couple of inches if I routinely run a tractor or mower over it.

You can easily convert from the push-in-and-strap-tight fittings for polypropylene to PVC. You'll need to use a torch to soften the pipe to push the fittings in.

Ralph,

thanks, should I try and tie in the pipe back at the well or just as the well enters the house? If I run it off a spigot, I can isolate it and easily drain it, but I'll be restricted by the small pipe leading to from the spigot. If I tie it back to the main off the house, I have a drain back problem and a drain out problem at the end of the season.
thanks, brett w

Brett,

Just put in an extra faucet where you tie in and use the blow out adaptor I had posted and you can do it wherever you like. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Initially in Baton Rouge, I ran the line to my barn from a spigot. Later on, I tied it into the line going into the house, actually just off the line from city water off the street.

Here, I run water to my carriage house through a hose off a spigot (and a remote one at that; front spigot gives more pressure). Water to my pool equipment area and pool deck shower comes off another spigot out back. I just leave the spigots on all the time in warm weather and have 2 hour timers on each one. I just give the timers a turn every time I need water. Otherwise, I'll sure as **** forget to turn something off. The plain turn timers are the most reliable. Those measure-the-amount ones just don't work on well water pressure, and they restrict the flow somewhat.

Ralph,
what is the name of those timers? sounds like what I need for evening watering. Can you put one on every spigot?

I've got a campground with a thousands of feet of 3/4'' strung around too. One thing to suggest, if you layout permits, is to do the pipe as a loop. If you have a higher demand in one location, it can feed both ways. And when it comes to winterizing, I've solved a lot of problems by pumping a gallon of antifreeze in at the top of the line and blowing it back to the bottom.

I've Gardenplus timers on every one of the 3 outside spigots here. Did this after wearing out the threads on the one spigot and prefering to have the timers anyway. Had tried the water measurement kind in Baton Rouge. They didn't work too bad on the higher pressure city water but were just plain unreliable on well water pressure.

What kind of pipe did you use? The same black poly roll?

I am going to borrow your loop idea. Thanks.

At the risk of making a dumb statement, but I assume that you will only have pressure on the pipe when called for by a watering zone.

My understanding is that black poly pipe cannot hold pressure, at least not household pressure. I used the poly-pipe for my sprinkler system, but it can not hold household pressure. (50-75psi).

You should use PVC schedule 40 if static pressures are used (pipe pressure with no demand.
