I "MAY" have to build my own hydraulic top link. (long story) If I do, is it necessary to disassemble the cylinder when welding the end on the cylinder, you know in consideration of seals and such.

I would think that I could just scope out the rod when I weld the end on it.

Where can I get a DPCV (double pilot check valve).
I really hope I don't have to do this. Still waiting on a call or email.

anyone ever welded on a cylinder?

The cylinder "should" be disassembled when welding on it, but you can get away with moving the seals away from the weld area (if you are welding on the base end) and covering with wet rags.

DPOCV's (double pilot operated check valves) are available, but not the small ones like CCM uses. CCM has sold them alone, you can search threads from user 3RRL (Rob), he added some to the stabilizer's on his backhoe.

The Surplus Center sells two stock sized HTL's with the DPOCV's also...

"The Surplus Center sells two stock sized HTL's with the DPOCV's also..."

I need a HTL with 11 or 12 inches of travel and an over all length extended of 38 inches.

I use ALL of that travel when working my boxblade and now that I've traded tractors, my HTL is too short. :(

The attached pic is my temporary mod to my quick hitch that will work until I can get a longer top link.
Ugly but it works

KennyD's right, only if you are welding on the base end is it ok to weld......best to take it apart and don't overweld it....the barrel will distort and all kinds of problems will happen........

I figure the email I'm waiting on will take care of my problem.

HA! I just looked at my picture and you can see the tag on that brand new tire on that brand new tractor. :)
I am still obligated to post pics of the tractor on the Kubota owning and operating forum.

Ah, I see where you're welding......adding on the hyd rod or cyl base is OK to weld without taking apart, just keep it cool ......May be easier to add a piece of steel between the base plate and rear clevis (more meat to weld to) vs adding to the hyd rod.....:)

I want to add 6 inches to the base of the cylinder, not to the rod. Simply move the cylinder out farther from the tractor. (further?)
Perhaps a pipe just under the OD of the barrel welded to the end of the barrel THEN the rear clevis welded on
like the crude drawing in the picture

I welded mine without troubles, I pulled the rod as far out to get the rubbers away from the weld area. It was winter so I burried it with snow and welded and welded.just go slow.. dont over heat.

That's a perfect way to do it....(can also be a slug of solid stock also)
