What can I say. I love this time of year. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Hearing those old machines run in the background just gets the circulation moving. There was also an auction. A friend of mine was doing it. Wednesday I helped him clean out an estate for the auction. That was horrible. It took much longer than expected. I thought I was gonna kiel over. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif By the time we were done, I hated that place. lol On Thursday I helped set up for the auction. That was a lot easier than moving all the stuff. Much quicker, too. Today was the auction. Here were some of the steals: a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville, 3600 V6, a little over 130,000 miles, clean. Went for about $2100! A John Deere M that ran great. Needed a paint job though. $1700. An Allis-Chalmers B - ran good, needed some paint. Went for about $1000. There was also a D17 with narrow front. It had a dead battery but ran good. The hydraulics worked, but the power steering was rough. Went for $1100. I watched them unload it from the trailer yesterday. They got the B off without a hitch, but the D17 was stubborn. They pulled it off with the B, then dragged it around until it started. Once it started running, it sounded good. There were multitudes of other bargains at the auction. Wish I was able to bid... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
There were all sorts of old tractors. The feature tractor was a Silver King. Very nice. There was also another one for sale but needed work. Appearance as far as I can tell. Never heard it run. There was a Farmall with a Sheppard diesel. Reading the plaque was interesting. There were some Rumleys, Hubers, and an old Oil Pull. The majority seemed to be Farmalls and Deeres along with Allises.
The local CaseIH dealer also made a showing - with a Steiger STX425 with tracks. That thing is HUGE! I have never really gotten a real close up look before. I did get a chance to give a DX24 a thorough going over they had displayed. It was the one that has been sitting at the dealer for quite a while. So has the STX425. Guess they're getting desparate. lol Anywho, I got up on it. The seat was comfy and it wasn't too hard to get on. I did feel a tad cramped, though. Getting off was another story. I gave myself a charley horse getting off. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I did notice that they just don't put the Farmall nameplate above the headlights - it was also atop the ROPS. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif It was a very nice machine, though.
There was also a flea market. It had some nice things. I splurged and got a $3 deck of John Deere playing cards. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
All in all, tractor shows are the best around! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
