just wondering what brand oil filter everyone is using on their vehicles. i have been using fram tough guard filters lately, but recently got into a discussion with some mechanics and they state fram filters are NOT very good and i should use wix or napa filters. the fram tough guard filters advertise well, stating they trap 6 times more contaminents and holds it better then the leading economy filter. says it traps 99%. that's pretty good if it is true. i have used napa gold filters before, but what do you think is the best oil filter and why? vehicles are gmc sierra 96 and 04 and 05 jeep liberty. the trucks do a lot of hauling/towing. i change the oil every 3000 miles and use pennzoil. thanks for all your responses.

I do about 100 oil changes a year. ( I take care of about 75 gas and diesel engines in everything from cars to dozers).

I run Fram, Quaker State, STP, Pennzoil, Puroilator, Honeywell, Ace, K&N, Napa, ect.

Never had a issue with Fram and have used them 75% of the time for the last 20 years. I know order my filters from a supply house and get what they have in stock so thats why the different brands listed above. Its like motor oil. Yes some are better than others but all meet or exceed the manufactures specs.

Your vehicles have ran this long on what you are using so why change?

NAPA Gold because they usually have what I need and are good quality. May cost a couple of bucks more, but cheap insurance in my book.

I run NAPA Gold, Bosch, Amsoil, and Baldwin. Fram has come under fire a lot lately, mainly because they are fairly cheaply built inside, but I ran them for years.

The thing with Fram was that they had paper end plates and when the oil was cold and the filter bypassed the paper could separate.
The best are AC Delco, Baldwin and Fleetguard, I use purolator and Wix when needed. I am a mechanic the only filter I have ever seen that was junk was a FoMoCo. It had no paper length. and it restricted the oil preasure.
If you Google air filter test results it gives you the list and if they make a good air filter the oil filters?
