What Brands did you look at, and what did you end up buying?

When I started looking at tractors I looked at John Deere, CaseIH/New Holland, Kubota, Mahindra, Cub Cadet, Kioti, Farm Trak, & Montana, those were the only ones I knew of that made cuts/scuts at the time. I ended up with a Kubota B3030. When I originally started looking I was only looking at the 25 Hp range. In fact the New Holland TZ25DA was what I was after in the beginning. Funny how that works! Today I learned something new, Ferrari and Lamborghini make tractors too!

This is John Deere country. I started looking at them. Then at New Holland, where I discovered the used (160 hrs) Kubota package that ended up purchasing. The Kubota package was exactly what I needed and far, far cheaper than what I could find anywhere else.

Went to New Holland dealer first, got quote seemed nice. Went to Kubota, totally blew the NH price away. Went to Deere, they came in at about $170 less than Kubota, but didn't like the machine as much. Being delivered very soon: Kubota L4240 on turf tires, FEL with 3rd valve and t-6 Harley rake.

I looked at and drove Kubota BX-1830 and B7500 and JD 2210 and 4010. Bought a 4010 in November 2004. The JD dealer is, by far, the closest to me and gave virtually the same price for 2210, 4010 as for a B7500 and was the same price as the JD dealer just over in the Shenandoah Valley from whom my neighbor bought his 4310. Decided the BX wasn't much of a step beyond my Gravely. Really happy with the 4010.

Really liked the ergonomics on a TYM at the county fair year before last.

Deere, NH, Kubota and Cub... then I ended up with a Power Trac. All the implements out front where they should be. Never regretted it and would buy one again.

Started at JD (2305), the looked at New Holland, then at Kubota BX24, then at Massey Ferguson GC 2310. Ended up with the MF. It was a better deal for me for many reasons.

Looked at Cub and Montana, but they were in a different size than what I was after.

I looked at a used Massey Ferguson then found I could buy a new, bigger Kubota for about the same price. End of search.

Started out with Kubota in mind, drove lots of them, kinda liked L5030, really liked M5040 in concept but never got to see one in person. Drove a NH TC45DA and was ready to buy one, then my wife drove and said she couldn't stand its HST pedals. Back to drawing board. Looked at Kioti, impressed with product, too nervous about dealer and parts availability to buy, compounded by being only marginally cheaper than big 3. Looked at Deere 4320, liked ok, not totally taken with. Drove L5030 again, still only lukewarm on it. Drove an M7040 cab and wasn't totally happy with visibility and control feel. Finally got convinced to drive a Deere 5105, really liked it. Also drove a used Kubota M6800 on same lot, didn't like. Drove M7040 again, still didn't like for same reasons. Drove 5105 one more time and decided to buy. Very happy with it.

HOWEVER.... only takes a little time owning to find out two things:
-it is way easy to overestimate how much tractor you need.
-a cab would be really, really nice most of the time - cold weather, hot weather, dusty weather, any time when brush mowing. Next tractor will have a cab, except in off chance that next tractor is a power-trac.

I wanted to stay within 30 miles of my home which limited me to NH, JD, and Kubota. I tried all three for what I wanted- JD's were too expensive, comfort with the Kubota's and dealer ruled them out, so I went with NH with the best ergonomics (for my aging body) for the size tractor I was interested and with whom I have been doing business with for 20+ years. They are definitely "old school", but a handshake means a lot (plus you get dirty visiting them ). Jay

I looked at Kubota, Deere, NH, Mahindra,& Case. Not to mention doing as much reserch as I could about every brand that I could find....... I purchased a Massey 2310.
