Looking
I have been digging out a bank behind the house. Hope to put a garage and parking area there. I have really been impressed with the 45S and KL451 loader. The tooth bar is a must when digging into this stuff. We call it yellow shale. Very hard, but if you dig straight into the bank and curl the bucket back at the same time it will break off in small pieces. 1st gear M range for digging and then shuttle to reverse and shift to H range. After I stop for a break the kids show up to conquer the mountains. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Of course you know they just had baths earlier. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Kids will be kids.

Here is a neat idea (I hope) for firewood storage. First year of trying this. Old apple crates. Move them around with the forks. No more carrying and storing wood inside the house. Set a crate by the back door and move it when done. Bought the crates at an auction for $20.00 a piece. 12 total.

Close up of 1 crate.

Those crates have a little bit weight to them. Makes the back end of the 45S dance a little. Much better with the mower on.

Nice pictures of the KIDS playing with the dirt piles but where's the pictures of the KIOTI playing with those piles? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Gotta love that apple crate idea - you just might have saved a back or two (possibly mine). Thanks for sharing and get back to "work".

Hey Donny, I love the apple crate idea. I'll get on that one this week!
You have pretty well trained kids there. I notice they are still wearing their shoes! My son wears his long enough to fill them with dirt, then he takes them off and leaves them on top of the pile! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif This makes my wife very happy when he does it in wet loam. hahaha

Great pictures!

Funny how the crate idea came to pass. Every year I have tried every way possible to make the wood process easier. I used to haul 3 to 5 cords in the basement every fall. Not to bad when you have help. To much mess though. After the kids showed up I lost my helper. My wife. My wife is from apple country over in Biglerville and I have always wondered if the crates would work. Trouble is no one will sell them. Wife and I went to a sale about 6 weeks ago and after looking things over decided it was a waste of time so we left. On the way back we passed a very large stacked pile of crates. Again, I start talking about the firewood storage idea. About a mile up the road I see a guy on a JD loading crates on to a flat bed truck. Crates are full of firewood. I stopped and talked to him and he said that is the only way he gets his wood. Even in the woods. Come find out on Friday of that week he is having an auction. He owns the whole apple orchard and is selling out. Crates are going up for auction. Rest is history. Kids will climb that dirt pile, but I bet when they get older they won't help load those crates. I would buy at least 12 more of those crates. I have twice that much to split at least. My advice if you find those crates buy everyone you can afford. Then let me know so I can buy the rest. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
