I've gotten a quote from the local Kubota dealer. (Still deciding between the MX5100 and the Grand L) Price isn't bad. I can do better from a distant dealer -- but I'd prefer to buy local if it's not a huge difference.

What type of things have you been successful getting thrown into a new sale, or very steeply discounted, to seal the deal?

I suppose pickup/delivery and service at the 50 hour mark? Fluid filled tires? Etc? The tractors that are on the lot pretty much have a loader as the only option.

I bought a New Holland last year, but I guess "dealing" should be about the same for any manufacturer. After coming to an agreeable price, my dealer agreed to load the tires, free delivery, which I thought was pretty good since I live about 50-60 miles away. I asked him about touch-up paint and he threw in 3 cans - 1 black, 1 blue, and 1 white. Had I thought about it more, I would have asked for a years worth of parts discounts - maybe 5 or 10%. The worse they could do is say no!

Look around for an implement you can use, that has been there over a year, and ask for it at their cost. They may be happy to see it gone.

I got fluid filled rear tires and delivery (45 miles) for free, but it was more like a service they offer to anyone that buys. Best thing I can suggest is to tell them everything you want and then ask for their best price on the whole package. They'll probably treat you better than if you appear to be angling for freebies, especially since many places discount the tractor and then make up profit on the accessories and implements. If you let them put together a package price, they will work the numbers so that everyone is happy.

When I used to sell boats, we'd offer a competitive price on the boat, and got annoyed when people asked us to throw in stuff like paddles, life jackets, gas cans, service, etc... for free. If they wanted stuff like that for free, we wouldn't be able to discount the boats at all! It's a business, and profit has to come from somewhere.

Chain hooks welded to the FEL bucket (you supply the hooks you want, dealer installs them)

Rear hydraulic remotes (2 or 3 pair). My dealer installed triple rear remotes on my 2008 Mahindra 5525 when I bought it new. Cost: $700, about half what you'd normally pay for triples.

Ask for the 50hr service at their cost.

It's not a bad strategy to ask for additional things because they may be at bottom dollar on the tractor or close and if they throw something in like FEL hooks it costs them very little, but you would have paid shop labor rates and parts at list price. Same goes for various accessories. Basically you're getting more $ off than they are giving (say hooks are retail $100 installed, but their cost is $25). This works good for vehicles, tractors, boats, etc.

For your tractor I think anything you want for it is fair game to ask for. Here are some things I've gotten tractor wise: FEL or bucket hooks, extra parts (filters, paint, maintenance stuff), free or discounted first service, pickup / delivery, filled tires, installed accessories (like lights), full service before you take delivery (if its used), 3 PT implements (obviously you may need to pay cost or if its small like a draw bar maybe they'll throw it in), extra fluids or grease and of course don't forget the hat :)

Pretty much agree, that's what has seemed to work best for me, negotiate everything at the same time.
