John deere 5100m, mf1643 cab and kubota bx2370woods bb720x land pride disc and reverse tiller
Its down to the wire between the mx5100 or the jd 4520...its a 5000 dollar difference both have loaders, jd has the 400cx loader both have backhoes jd is 60hp Kubota has 52hp ..jd has a third valve in the rear..I'm stuck on if its worth it. I mostly due timber work with some food plot work, will the extra hp help with backhoe digging?? Please help

Taking a quick look at Tractordata.com, it appears the horsepower is actually about the same. However, the John Deere apparently is considerably heavier. I think that might help more on the digging than horsepower.

Size of backhoe has to do with tractor frame size and weight. Unless you gain a larger frame size, the backhoes are going to be rated the same. For instance nearly all if not all tractors have several models with varied HP on the engine but the frame size is the same therefore the backhoe would be the same for all these models.
If the JD is larger physically in size, then it likely has a bigger back hoe with higher capacities. Check the specs for each of them with regards to digging depth, breakout forces for bucket and dipper, lift capacities etc and you will readily see which one has the better hoe.

If it's Pto powered hoe than no it won't..if it uses the tractors hydraulic system than the tractor with the higher pump gpm will give you more speed and performance at the hoe but not neccesarily more digging power, that's determined by the backhoe and pressure relief settings on the tractor.

Great point RD. My Kubota hoe has it's own pto pump. Love that I do not play w/ hoses. Also, a comment on the savings. for me I love my Orange. I assume Kubota is cheaper here... right. ;-) Hauling around a heavy backhow on the 3pt is not something I do for long periods. Mine is 900Lbs. Gas consumption goes thru the roof! Less weight can be a good thing - Depending. You'll make the right choice for you.
btw/ What cool timber accessories can you get for $5K? I love this site.
