What's not to like about the Yanmar LX490/4900 tractors?

Nice work.
Did you ever install a rear remote kit? If so, any probs with your revised handle position?

No, I haven't yet. However when the time comes, if it's a problem, I have no reservations about cutting up the new rear remote lever to make it work for me as well :)

Also, I think your perception of the quality of these tractors is spot-on. Mine has been great so far...there is literally nothing that I don't like about it, aside from the 3-pt handle that I fixed.

I have the rear remotes and the levers work more naturally and I don't think you will want to do anything to them unless it is for some little refinement that you personally like. On the other hand I really need to do something with the 3ph lever. Every time I get time to do something with the tractor I need to be working it not working on it. But the lever is getting stiffer to operate and I need to check into freeing it up a bit or change the leverage.

Does anyone know if the lever retention friction is adjustable or if it needs lubing or something. Only when it got a bit stiffer did I seriously think I have got to change the leverage and quit thinking that a change in leverage would be nice.

The quality is there. I have 158 hard working hours and not the first thing shaking loose, or not performing. After being exposed to the tractor in all sorts of situations it just seems to be put together right. Perhaps things will start showing up, such as this lever getting stiff, why is that, or the power referser lever feeling like it need some lub somewhere. We will see.

The lever assembly does include a Friction bolt, which is represented as #6 in the attached figure. Perhaps the friction can be adjusted by backing it off the nut (#36) a little? I'm not near my LX at the moment, but I'll take a closer look later...

Late afternoon yesterday I recruited my wife and her sister to help back-fill a 30 yard drainage trench I had dug with a friend's tow-behind trencher. (2 feet deep, 1 foot wide).

My wife, who didn't think we needed a tractor, must have been thinking about the 7 yards of crushed rock delivered that morning and asked: "We're going to use the tractor, right?"

The LX worked like a charm. Using the HST synchro throttle in medium gear, my ag wheels will dig holes in the ground rather then stall when pushing the loader into a 18,000 lb pile of 3/4" crush rock.

The 3pt handle should be ok where it is, I just installed the rear remote kit myself and think the handle will either pass between the two levers or in most situations will be up higher in the stroke anyway to not interfere. Even if it does another slight modification will be easy. I think the stock location is just fine for me. If anyone wants the back half of the remote kit (the pre-bent pipes from the valve to the rear couplers, the couplers themselves and their brackets, we did not use ours, i'll have them for sale. We did not utilize the rear couplers and we ran our own hoses straight off the valve body (one up front for a grapple and one straight back to the top link. The pre-bent pipes are dead accurate though, everything fits.
