I'm looking to replace my 1983 1710. Originally I was looking at pre-emission machines. Then I had someone mentioon that they had to replace the fuel control module on their 2003 NH machine. I'm not a fan of any form of electronics on a utility tractor so I immediately started wondering far back I needed to go to predate electronic fuel injection on these machines.

I can say my 2008 Massey 1540 is mechanical injection

I suspect it depends on the make and model and or horse power of the engine vs stating in 20** they all were built this way

My TYM T474 (48.3Hp) is a mechanical injected diesel even to its Tier 4 DPF. I have 565h on it without issues. Most under 25Hp comes with mechanical injection too.

It become more common when Tier 4 diesel emissions standards came into effect.

That's when you started seeing more tech like electronic injection, common rail, DEF, DPF,...

In my case I bought my 2015 Kubota M59TLB because it was the last model year without all the electronic emissions stuff added. In 2016 it became the M62TLB

It makes sense that it varies my mfg. Realistically, I'm not even sure what the fuel control module does on a 2003 NH machine. It might just be a relay that's used to cut off the fuel supply. My real question should have been something like "How hard is a XXX to work on?" I'm a pretty handy individual, but I'm limited on what diagnostic tools I have. That's always been one of my favorite things about diesel engines. Just needs atomized fuel, oxygen, and compression. No ignition system to troubleshoot.

The issue with common rail is the plethora of sensors and signals that the computer reads, just to run the engine. Mechanical injection needs fuel and air and compression... No computer.
