Where are all the used 15" tires ??

I need 15" tires for my farm wagon ... went to three different shops this morning and NOTHING ... they said they could order them.

I thought 15" used tires would be easy to find ... seems they have plenty of 16, 17" tires.

Theres been a huge increase in some shops specializing in selling used tires, they are buying up anything there is, and with the economy the way it is, a lot of people aren't changing tires until they are bald.............or blow out.

EDIT: If you were referring to new tires, a lot of vehicles have switched to 'low pro' tires...........it's common nowadays to see 16, and 17 inch rims on newer vehicles.

Not many cars/trucks with 15s any more. Most have gone to 16s,17s, and up.
I have hard time finding 15s for trailer. Good luck!

It is not that easy to find used 15" any more. Trucks have gone mostly to 16 and 17's. In the long run it may turn out to be cheaper to get some 16" rims and start making the switch.

If you go to the trouble, go all the way to a 17". That's about the smallest you'll find on any new half ton or larger truck sold now. Used truck tires make much better utility trailer tires than used car tires do if you run them til they won't hold air.

You think that's bad, try finding 14" or 13" tires. I needed a couple 14" for an old POS woods trailer and it took a while to find anything at all. I blew a 13" on the tow dolley and couldn't find anywhere that had any.

You can tell a lot about the economy by looking in the back of tire stores. When people have no money they run their tires all the way to the bottom. Pretty much only casings you find are either shredded or blown out, or bald to the cords.

My friend who runs a junkyard started pulling all the tires off every vehicle that comes in for insurance purposes. He says he now has multiple used tire shops that come by every few days and buy everything they take off. A couple years ago he had a warehouse full of ricks of tires sorted by size. As of last year they barely have a pallet or two of tires at any given time. As long as it has legal tread the tire shops will pay for them. They even buy good treaders with holes and plug them.

When Obama raised the tariff on Chinese tires, that was carte blanche for everyone to raise the prices on tires since the competition was going to cost more. I put 4 new 265-75-16's on my truck 4 years ago for $440. Last year it cost me $600 for the same tires.

And my wife wonders why I have a 8'x8' shed stuffed full of good used rubber...

I can identify with your circumstance in regard to the availability of 15 inch tires. Around two weeks ago I upgraded one of my farm trailers, going from 14 inch to 15 inch tires.The largest tire store in our NC county of less than 23,000.didn't have any used 15 inch or rims. I have been doing business with them for 11 years. The owner sent me to a salvage yard 40 miles away. I stopped and checked at a small junkyard on the way there hoping to save me a few miles. No success. The recommended salvage yard had no used 15 inch tires, and mine you, this was a huge place. Two used 15 inch rims ended up costing me 70 dollars. I wet back to my buddy's garage and he had two new 15 inch tires that a customer had ordered and later changed their mind. My buddy sold these two 15 inch tires to me at his cost. In conclusion my upgrade costs were-- two used rims=$70.00 plus two tires= $105.00. Total=$175.00. Two years ago, this would have cost around 60 to 85 dollars. Talk about inflation and sticker shock. See if there are any classic car clubs in your area, I was able to score a pair of 15" tires for our yard wagon for $50 from a member of the local corvette club, lots of old muscle cars had 15" on them. As a bonus they are usually 60 series and the extra width floats over mud easily...

Thats a good idea ... I'm thinking at this time just finding 17" rims and tires ... use the torch to blow new holes to bolt the 5 hole pattern ... afterall its a farm wagon.

If you are going to do that, use a small paper/foam plate to make a pattern from the hub, then overlay it on the rim, center punch and drill. Would not recommend torching rim.
