Not to ignite another pole barn fiasco..

BUT..

My builder recommened getting ALL the concrete work done at once.. so I won't have to worry abou redoing any lawn work.

Was planning a slab for my wife's studio (with a in law appartment above it)

House foundation with slab for attached garage.

Slab for a eventual "Toy shed"

Now keep in mind that this is Maine.

Can I put the pad down and let it sit for a year or two. Figure it would be a good place to park the tractors and such.. just use the old universal blue tarps. At least until the checkbook recovers from the move in shock I'm sure it will see.

Thinking of a good size pole barn to house all the things my wife won't let me keep in the garage.

:0)

If the slab has good drainage under it, it should be fine. Read the thread about the person doing a concrete driveway in Minnesota. Lots of good information in that one... Driveway Base: is 12" Crushed Stone Overkill?
One thing to consider if you can afford it, is a cellar under the garage using precast concrete slabs for the garage floor. If you have any interest, we can get into it in a separate posting.

I built mine (28x40) and let it set for a year to settle before I poured the floor. Worked out perfect for me.

With well prepared base it's convient to do all the concrete work at once. Consider adding a footer around the perimiter in case you switch to standard walls. When building a slab is nice to work on.

Ok.

sounds like getting the concrete done *with a footer, thanks for that advice

Then my options are open for what to build later.

I would imagine that the concrete would be cheaper.. as they are doing it all at once.

hey JUNKMAN: whats up with the precast stuff? I'm thinking I may be able to get soem of that for hte walls in my barn service pit, then pour up to and over the top edge some for the needed height of the floor after the pit is up/in and secure using the precast stuff?
