Kubota L3010
Hey folks I am looking at putting Shell Rotella T5 15w40 in my L3010. I don't use my tractor a tremendous amount, probably 50 hours or less. With that being the case, how often should I change the oil. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rowdy

If you go outside of annual oil changes you should have a used oil analysis done just to determine how the additive package is doing...
Lightly used equipment will condense moisture and other contaminants. Actually I would go one step further and that is use Rotella T6, and change it every 12 to 15 months or so. T6 has a better addative package and is full synthetic, also affordable at WalMart. KennyV

T5 is not synthetic, only a synthetic blend. Use the T6.

I run Delvac one in all my diesels. My Ford only gets about 20 hours per year now. I change the filter every year and the oil every two.

My L4610 was the same vintage as your L3010. I used the synthetic blend Rotella for several years without problems and went to the full synthetic when it became available. Comparable Delvac or other high quality diesel synthetics should also be fine. The 5W 40 viscosity was recommended, particularly for better cold weather performance.

Tried to follow a schedule of changing oil every 100 hours or at least once a year, whichever came first.

If the L3010 is new to you and you don't know its service history, take nothing for granted... do a full service so you know where things stand.

I use the synthetic T6 in everything at the farm except for the little 2 strokes. I just buy the 5 gallon drums from the auto stores when they are on sale. I go by hours. Some get used 50 hours a years, some 100 and some less. I used to change oil and filter every other year and realized I was just draining out money and time. When was the last time you saw an oil related problem? How many POS minivans have you seen out there that probably haven't had the oil changed in years that drive along just fine with no smoke. I see Massey's in Africa with 5000 hours on them and still have the factory painted filters. With the oils these days, especially synthetic, and the production specifics used in the engines the factory noted intervals for engine oil/filter are more than adequate for me.

Mine get filter and change every six months or every 100 hours. I write the due date or hours on the filter for easy glance. If I am approaching either at the start of hay season they get changed. Rotella T 15-40.
