One of the most common things I hear when people talk about tractors is that you can never have enough tractor, but it can't always be true. Tell me your tales of over purchasing!

I bought the 5410 to bale hay - small square bales. I could have used a lot less machine, but what would the fun be? Smaller machine would not be able to haul 3 large square bales (which I buy) at a time, but that's just a benefit of the larger machine. If I really had to, I could do one at a time. But now that I'm getting rid of the last horse, it seems I have over bought even more. Though, I have no plans to sell as it has been an excellent tractor and done everything asked of it.

I guess it is more of human nature to complain when you can't get something done, but not when it does the job just to darn well though:thumbsup:

There was 11 at one time. A couple national champions and a lot of great horses, but they've all passed but one young one and made the decision that keeping just the one around was too much work than none at all. Will really free up the schedule, but will miss having them around.

I've got about 2.5 acres and mow another 3 acres of a powerline right of way.
Had a Deere 670 (17 PTO HP) first...fine little tractor. But I wanted more PTO HO for a chipper, so I bought a Deere 790. Great tractor and a good fit for the property and tasks. The only thing I didn't like about the 790 was reverse gear...low range was too slow, high range was too fast (at PTO RPM). I asked my dealer to watch out for a 4300 or 4310 with a reverser transmission.
When he called, the tractor was a 4400 (30 PTO HP) and is a lot more then I need as far as power, but that's what came with that reverser transmission.
It is a great tractor, and I really enjoy the reverser (12 speeds forward and reverse), but it really needs at least 10 acres to justify it...

I've got a M59 parked on my .96 acre suburban lot.

Sucks for cutting the grass.

Pushes snow real good.

I personally have never heard anyone say they have too much tractor...... more is always better.

Remember when all guys used to brag about how SMALL their cell phone was.... (the only thing we bragged about for being the smallest). Now the cell phones need a briefcase to carry them. or HUGE pocketed jackets.

i could have gotten away with a 2000 series john deere tractor for 10 acres. However, i thought about how freakin hot it gets and dusty while mowing so i said what the ****, i need a freakin cab tractor with a/c and heat plus music to mow. Also, i hit 2 underground yellow jacket nest back in august and i had to get off mower and run like h.e.ll. Not anymore becuase i bought a 3520 john deere with pressure sealed cab (not sure if kubota is sealed like that). Moral of the story? I went bigger becuase I had to to get a cab that was factory installed. Could of went with another brand tractor but i have only bought john deere equipment. I came from a 325 jd garden tractor and it took me 12 hours to mow the **** lawn at this new property haha:thumbsup:

I was looking for a 5X25 or 50X5M series John Deere. I ended up with a 6000 series because the price was about 10,000 less than the smaller tractors I had been looking at.

Hard to have 'too big' of a tractor, you must have heard your wife say size does not matter too many times ..... :)

you can never have to much tractor unless you live in town on an acre or 2.

Yep. I started with a 33hp, then went to a 48hp. Now, I wish I had at LEAST a 60hp cab preferably 70-80hp to comfortably pull a 10ft bush hog...

So far haven't read where anyone believes they've bought too much tractor. :D
Me included, CK25 on 2.5 acres. Glad I didn't go smaller.

After having a JD 5210 that I was perfectly satisfied with for ten years, I picked up a smaller 35 hp tractor to accomodate some of my needs for better manuverability. Now I find that I am hardly using the larger tractor.

Two weeks ago the power company dug up a big rock while trenching new underground for me. Moving that rock was the first tractor job in the last year that the little CT335 failed to do for me.

Now that I think about it, that sneaky little guy with the HST has quietly been becoming my first choice. But, I do do still love that Deere.

You guys have missed a thread I started a few days back about possibly downsizing. I have an L4300 on 10 acres and often catch myself wishing for something a little smaller (and cushier). I would say I possibly bought too much tractor, but I got a super good deal on it and hey, it will do the work wherever it will fit.
