A DPF engine runs at a high rpm (usually around 2,000 for tractors) and once everything is at the correct temperature --- an additional injector mounted between the exhaust manifold and the DPF injects diesel directly into the exhaust system. This creates heat and pressure that cleans out the DPF.
What I like about these engines is that they do not use a common rail injection system. It is still a mechanical fuel injection set up.

DEF is an injection system incorporated into the exhaust to clean up particulates. it is of a urea based fluid and no, it does not come from cow urine.
Or in case of the Kukje engines in the 2021+ models, they use a electronically controlled exhaust valve that closes and opens as needed to increase the temp of the DPF instead of an additional injector dumping fuel.

Still an easy system to deal with if it happens to create issues.

2019+, I have a 2019 and it has this flapper.

DEF is only used on engines over 75hp, where the emissions limits are tighter than under 75hp.

My 4 year old Branson has a low temp continual regen DPF, without the ability to command a regen. It works great for the vast majority but a few people mostly in very cold climates who didn't work their tractors hard enough to get the DPF hot had problems with them clogging. I think they added the ability to command a regen in order to address this.

The engine itself has been around for decades, from Onan to Cummins to Kukje who made it under license from Cummins. They also switched from replaceable cylinder liners to a parent bore block which would be stronger.

Massey still has to meet emissions limits, they're not "no emissions". They have some tech that makes it burn clean enough to not need a DPF or DOC.

The MF 1835 and 1840 does have a DPF on it as shown and explained on this video:

You better switch that from "stronger" to "cheeeper"!!!

There's a reason why all the bigger diesels (semi's/bigger dozers) have replaceable liners and it's not because they are weaker!

Switching to parent bore is not for cheaper/lower cost. When we wanted to bump our 4.0 liter to 4.4 liter at Tier 2, one option was to tool up an entirely new block (block casting tooling is very expensive). Another was to eliminate cylinder liners and modify the casting tooling to accommodate the larger bore size. With improvements made to casting material, wear life was no longer considered an issue. It also allowed a stronger block. Since then, Tier 3, Tier 4 Interim, and Tier 4 final have come along and in one of the phases, a new block was designed and that 1.0 liter per cylinder 4 liter that was limited to 107 HP is now a 1.1 liter per cylinder ranging up to 250 HP. A lot of change was put into the crank - rods and mains - to handle the higher loads. And its linerless.

Would also add if fits into the planned obsolescence agenda too. A lot cheaper to replace the sleeves then get machine work done on the block.
