I have the same chipper. I engage the pto at low idle and take it right up to PTO speed 540 marked on the tachometer. I have not done a lot of fresh pine but I did some fresh cut test longer leaf pine branches no issue. Another person mentioned the same thing, run proper PTO RPM. My high speed/low speed feed does not seem to a be a big difference. Maybe it is but after days of feeding year old pines I set it on high speed. If I am tossing in a 6 inch oak branch I may turn down the feed speed as my tractor is only 28 PTO HP.

Nothing good happens if you trash your chipper blades. Do not feed dirty branches covered with gravel from the side of a railroad bed. You have to flip the blades to the good side and joy occurs. Well as much joy as hard labor can be.

Also buy extra shear bolts and nylocks. Have the wrenches available to install a new shear bolt and nut. Stinks to drive a half mile back to the truck to get a wrench.

When I had 1800 evergreens cut/chipped, they waited until it was below zero F to do the job....Hmm, maybe this is why?

I think it's the soft pine needles that are clogging it up. Kinda like trying to punch an octopus.

I had the same clogging issue with my old woodland mills wc46 chipper. pine needles and even leaves would build up between the feed roller and flywheel even when chipping at 540 PTO rpms and even on dry days. I would have to stop, shut the tractor off and use a pry bar to lift the feed roller, secure it high enough and safe enough to reach in and manually unclog it every time.

I have had the same problem with my 2 previous pto chippers. Both had the small square opening where the transition occurs from the flywheel housing to the discharge chute. That was where mine would plug. My current unit doesn't have that problem. The transition is large and smooth tapered, no square corners of my other chippers.

After piling my small pines and letting them dry for chipping the following year - no problems. The dry needles become brittle and shatter. Same with the branches. The main trunk might be the only thing with still a little sap.

I'm fortunate - the ONLY thing I have to chip is Ponderosa pines. I know that others have trouble with "stringy stuff".

However - with the larger Wally BX62S it's all in the past. Now the green/sappy stuff all passes just fine.
