I just bought a used X540 mower.
The PO had installed this mulching kit with M145516 blades.
I planned to take this off but seen the kit cost about $225.
So I decided to try to mow with it.
It 1st left stems of grass, but I determined the front of the deck was way too low; I have this fixed.
I have mowed 2 times with this & I am amazed at the result.
I have not mowed any real high grass, but this thing totally eliminated the clippings.
Except for a small row on the right side it's like all the grass disappears!
The mower had only 138 hours, but he had 2 extra sets of blades.
1 of the sets is worn to a rounded nub; about the worst I have ever seen.
My question is this. What is the down side of using mulching blades?
Do blades need sharpened every 3 months?
Is this mulching action stressing the belt, spindles, pto, engine etc?
The mower seems to have no problem handling the grass...
I am just trying to decide about keeping this mulching setup on.
It's NOT just different blades.
This kit has closed in baffles under the deck, and the outlet is obviously blocked.
I see the Exmark professional zero-turn mowers with mulching setups mowing early in the AM with totally wet grass. I have tried mine in wet grass and it also seems to mow with no problem.
I thought it would be clogged up bad underneath after wet mowing.
But when I used the water hose attachment afterwards, almost nothing washed out!
