XT2 54 FAB - missing spring on break rod (I think)

Guys, today I noticed a rod over the deck was hanging lose. One end is attached to the break pedal but the other is hanging loose and I'm trying to figure out (with your help) how and where it needs to be attached to.
Attached are 2 pictures where you can see where it is attached to the pedal and hanging loose under the frame over the deck.

The rod has a fixed length. Move it to various positions in its potential travel path - remember to look above and below as well. At some point you'll see a mechanical piece with a hole in it which will be used to activate the brakes. Put the rod through the hole and secure with cotter key and washer.

Some of those link rods connect with a formed sheet metal clip. If you cannot find it on your deck or in the grass you may need to purchase one. Look at Jack's Small Engines or the Cub Cadet site for a parts breakdown/diagram for an illustration. You could even do a screen capture (zoom in) to have in hand that will help you.
