Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

I got the recall in the mail today. I had already re-torqued these bolts just a few hours ago. They were pretty tight when I did them. Now I'll have to take them out, add loctite and retorque. Looks like we may have a warm weekend for a change so I guess I'll do them then. Besides, Its time for another oil change on the tractor, truck, car, motorcycle, 4 wheeler, generator and lawn mower. Time to head to wally world for about 4 or 5 cases of oil. Gotta keep up the service on the toys.

( We have been doing this procedure for the last 2 years on all of our 15 series. )

Me thinks I'll call my dealer tomorrow and see if they took care of this for me before I bought the tractor. If wallace has known about it for 2 years, perhaps they (Artec Tractor - Nauvoo/Jasper, AL) have known about it, too.

Later,
BR

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

This is really not a good time for a "big ticket" item.
I can certainly understand that.

I did pick up a couple of surplus ammo boxes today. $5.95 for the small one and $7.95 for the large (.30 cal) one. The large one is going to become a new toolbox for my 2615.
They make great toolboxes for tractors. I have one on mine. Started out with the small one and then graduated to a larger one. They look really good in Massey red and are a lot better built than that flimsy plastic thing that came from the factory. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

The large one fits the fender perfectly, so... I'm taking the small one back tomorrow for another large one. I'm going to put one on each fender. One for my chain/gloves and the other for assorted tools. The small plastic one behind the seat that came from the factory will be for 3PH clips and pins, e-clips, etc.

I'll be sure to post pictures once I get them mounted and painted.

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

We have also been applying loctite and torquing all the frame rail bolts for the last 18 months or so. It has eliminated the issue. The new 15 series (2815, 3215) use more bolts and larger bolts, then ironically they have removed most of the stress off of these bolts by using a pedestal mount loader that is not braced to the front bumper. No more bolt issues.

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

I'm quite sure this is the same re-torque/loose bolt problem that the Cub Cadets with the Mitsubishi Engine and Drivetrain have experienced for several years. If you go to the CC forum you should be able to find posts about this. The Cubs are virtually the same frame, etc as the Mahindras, just in the CC paint scheme. Excellent machines but the loose bolts and cracked engine attachments have really bit a few people. If they are the same bolts I'm kind of surprised Mahindra & Mitusubishi haven't done something to preclude the problem.

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

Charlie and other Mahindra owners. I was surprised this thread didn't elicit more responses but maybe the dealers have done a good job preping the tractors before delivery so you didn't have to worry about it. Charlie thanks for the attachment that showed the picture. Although I knew the Cub/Mitsubishis had bolt problems I never had anyone show me which bolts that loosened. I had thought it was the ones that are actually 90 degrees to these and slightly further to the rear. The Cub frame was the same as the top photo on Charlie's attachment. Mine were still torqued fine, thanks again for the picture.

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

Charlie - consider yourself fortunate to have at least received a notice from Mahindra as to a recall. Several items on the "00" series were silent recalls and unless you questioned your dealer about a problem - you would never know that Mahindra recognized and had a viable fix for your problem. If I have a problem with Mahindra - it has to be their silence in being proactive to existing problems or problems that are sure to surface in the future...long after warranty.

Re: xx15 Recall, have you gott\'n it?

I performed the warranty myself this weekend. Followed the procedure as stated doing one bolt at a time. I bought the loctite # 242 locally and retorqued to 80-87lb. Took me about an hour.
My dealer called me up today re: this warranty recall, he was going to come to my place to do the warranty. I told him he can mark me off as completed since I did it saturday.
