How else ya' gonna git 12 foot of wood in a roller skate?

Nissan Cube Wagon Models, Price, Specs, Reviews | Cars.com

It's just barely 12 foot long bumper to bumper. Cargo area can't be more than 4 or 5'.

I can get a 12' foot board almost fully inside my Taurus wagon. Have to open the front passenger side window and let a bit stick out. 10 footers go inside, no issue. And I've had 14s and 16s on the roof strapped down.
That car has an optional double moon roof…….

that completes the transition to a toaster.

I keep hearing nobody is making money but someone has to be.

One exception is oil after tanking is rolling in clover...

Timber sellers not so much?

What gives?

I have friends that log out their property on regular basis. The prices they get per truckload have not increased at all in past 4-5 years. I dont know if its the mills or the wholesalers that are raking in the money…but it sure isnt the land owners.

i got a bid last year to log out 10 acres to clean it up. The money for logs wouldnt pay for the labor. So it still sits like it was.

But if I'm a single mom who wants to build my own diy shelf or whatever, I'm better off to just buy the lumber vs invest in my own sawmill.

Are y'all really so close-minded that you can't step outside your own box and see that what works for you isn't always the best for the other few billion people on the planet?

I wouldn't buy the precut lumber, but I can understand how it's a good fit for some people.
You are correct of course. At my age (and maybe some of the other folks here) remember when a decent business would have made the cuts for the single mom, and sold her the lumber for the price it should be.

best,

Do you ever take the time to read what you are replying to, or just post some knee jerk response?
Hint: this should give you a clue that I wasn't just "living in my own box."
Yet I can still cut the trees, sell them to the mill, and buy the KD 2x4 for less money.

Unless they had stock holders demanding higher returns.

I didn't take it that they were replying to you and your post specifically. More like in general to the tone us country folks take in how stupid none country folks are.

I'm not buying anything right now. Nothing at all. Everything is on hold if I can't do it with something I have. And I've dug through the old, re-used more than once stuff quite a bit.

I'm not even buying much mower gas. Between the battery mower and trimmers, the tractor that doesn't use a lot of diesel and just letting the grass grow as little as it has been in the hot dry weather, I've only been through about 5 gallons of gasoline.

It used to be nothing for me to hitch up the trailer, run to town and grab $30 or $40 in lumber to be able to do a project. And then do it again the next week. I'm not sure I've bought more than a half dozen boards in a year, and they were seconds/markdowns. I did have to buy a few trim boards, molding to complete modifying an old door that I reused instead of buying a new one, but that's about it.

I replaced underlayment on barn roof about 4 years back. 1/2” cdx was $8.50 a sheet. Gone are the good old days.
