yanmar 1610D
I have an opportunity to purchase a ym 1610 D (I believe) 4wd tractor w/front end loader, tiller and box for 3500.00. I understand the numbers means it has a 18hp pto and a 20 hp engine. He is also going to sell me a mower that is 60in.

I have a total of 9.45 acres but will only be cutting around 6 acres w/ some hilly areas but no brush.. It runs good and everything works. I am female and new to tractors. I have 3 questions. 1st. is this a good price? 2nd. is it big enough for my property and lastly is it difficult to manuever?

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

That would be considered a very good price in the Northeast where I live. Of course, it would depend upon the hours and overall condition of the tractor. What brand of loader is on it?

The first two numbers in a gray market Yanmar indicate p.t.o. horsepower. The manual for my tractor says to multiply pto hp times 1.2 to obtain the engine hp. I think a twenty hp diesel tractor would be fine for mowing nine acres....just my opinion.

Don't think you would have too much trouble driving it; although it probably doesn't have power steering, once you get the machine moving she'll turn fairly easy.

I'm new at the tractor game. I'm sure you'll get a lot of advice that's better informed than mine. Sounds like it could be a great machine, depending on condition. Good luck!!

Igu38,

As an owner of the 1610D I can tell you it is a fine machine. It is quite capable of doing almost any task, as is almost any tractor.

Think of it this way, even a small garden tractor could mow your property, you just dont want to spend a week doing it. The 1610D will mow just fine with a 48" bushhog and 60" finish mower in any type of grass. I have used my little tractor for things I didnt even imagine it would do.

The more HP and size you have, can cut down on the time of the task, a smaller tractor will just take longer to do the task.

I feel the price is a great price if the tractor is in decent shape and is within reason for hours. Any of the tractor vets on here will tell you that a Yanmar will run several thousand hours before it needs to be rebuilt. The thing to remember is whether it was taken care of while running up to that several thousand hours. A strong service history is key in buying a used machine.....if it made noise, was it lubed? If it was loose, was it tightened? If it was broke, was it replaced? And finally was the lube and maintenece schedule followed? if these questions are all answered in the affirmative, then the price is right on for this little workhorse!!

You will not be disapointed in this machine, in regards to ease of operation, or user friendliness! And your in the right place for questions, the users on here are johnny on the spot for problem fixes and are more than capable in explaining things for a novice tractor owner!

Good Luck,

Justin
