Yanmar YM2000
I have a Yanmar YM2000. When I put the PTO into the Neutral position, the tractor bogs down and will stall when you let the clutch out. The PTO works fine in 1, 2, & 3.

I noticed the PTO lever pivots on (what appears to be) the same rod as the differential lock pedal. With the tractor off, when you push down on the differential lock pedal, the PTO will get tight (no movement at all).

When you push the clutch in, the PTO will spin freely in 1-2-3.

When the PTO is in neutral position, it will not spin at all (with clutch in or out).

I'm wondering what internal mechanisms would/could contribute to this issue? Is it possible something it out of alignment inside, perhaps with the differential lock pedal?

Would it be better to try and access the possible issue through the rear cover? or the top cover?

Thanks,
Nick

Welcome. Is this a BD. Model with power shift??
If not and it was mine I would get everything in it's correct position. Forget the labels they very well could be wrong!! Start by making sure your in the correct drive gear. You can do that by driving the tractor forward. Just don't step on it. The left wheel should be engaged sitting in the seat. Neu in the gear shift. All the way down on the PTO gear shifter is 1st. next wich can be difficult sometimes even on mine is Neu. PTO.. No drive wheels no PTO. Nodda nothing!!! is were you shoud be. PTO 1 Down is 540 1st. Halfway backup Neu. Next up 2nd. up 3rd. Then move to the Drive gears. H-L shifter on the R. 1-4 or 5-8 H.
Then tell us what happens

Can you clarify what you'd like me to try a little more?

I've tried the PTO with the tractor in both 'H' and 'L' ranges and all gears. The problem with the PTO remained the same no matter the gear/range combination. Getting the PTO lever into '1' is a little tricky and you usually have the let the clutch out slightly to get it to spin a little to get it into '1'. Getting the PTO into 'neutral' is about the same, you have to let the clutch out slightly to get it to spin a bit to get it into neutral. Once the PTO is in neutral, if you let the clutch out, it will bog and stall the tractor. Shifting the PTO into '2' or '3' is a lot easier. It will usually goes right in.

Your letting me know what I wanting to hear. So your saying you have the PTO in Neutral and if you let the clutch out it bogs the tractor Down ? correct!!.. Okay L. differential wheel in drive!! let it stall then go back and try to spin the PTO shaft by hand. Does it spin? If not then try to put it in Neutral without it running in the correct position of the shifter of course. 1/2 up from 1st.. Drive gears in neutral.? What happens? If you do this and the PTO is still in gear it not in Neutral...

I found the issue. The idler gear was galled to the PTO shaft and essentially was causing the PTO to be in 2 speeds at once when I put it in neutral... PTO is fixed. I refilled the transmission oil and now have a axle seal leaking...

Where is the best place to get parts for these old Yanmars?

Had on leaking on mine. A axle seal. One of the first things I had to take care of after going down literally. Because of that I let my Axle collar go without replacing it. Only had micro pits on it so I opted to let it go and went over it with the emery cloth. I orderd them from Hoye also I believe. They are another reason all of us are even on here!!! Honestly them or the big Fred.? I ended up with a couple drips after mowing but they just hit the tire and soaked in. I didn't lose any fluid when I done it by just jacking one side up at a time. Ended up that after a couple years of dripping It finally quit!! I also noticed my Hyd. fluid just started to fall in the Hatch mark also. I had it pretty well full I believe.
I remember clemsonfor doing his and I believe he goes over how he did his collar. I wasn't in good shape phys. then........
