After months of waiting for the land to dry enough to allow the equipment to navigate, the contractor's track hoe arrived late today.

After dropping the front of the trailer, the hoe is driven off. It tilts quickly when the balance point is reached. The tracks barely fit on the trailer. If I was driving it, I'd be figuring my pucker factor.

Parked for the night. First thing in the morning, they will start by digging a trench and burying the debris from the land clearing. The rest of the equipment will arrive in the morning.

The hoe has a reach of 52'. I posed the TC18 for comparison purposes...it sure is nice to have the right equipment to do a job.

Those sure look like menacing rain clouds in the picture. That is one seriously big excavator. I don't think that there are any around here that large. Around here, you can't dig a hole without finding boulders as large as cars and lots of ledge too. I remember 2 years ago, they were installing a new sewer pipe a couple of towns away and they ran into a large boulder... It was the size of a school bus. They pulled it out of the ground and put it at the side of the road where it stayed for many months.... I never heard of how they disposed of it, but I would be inclined to believe that they just blasted it into smaller sections and then carted it away. I think that a rock crusher is just about as an important tool as a wood chipper.........

That's gonna be really fun to watch. Maybe the operator will let you in the cab to get a true perspective, or if you're lucky, maybe he'll let you dig a few scoops. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I'm envious. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ahha! Finally I find out what people mean by track hoe! We call that an escavator up here. I was picturing one of those old allis bull dozers with the back hoe.

I'll have to get out of the woods more often!

lol. slow, you've got that right.. trackhoe. weird eh...

that machine with a 52" boom, is actually quite usless for anything other then ponds, and **** work. i've run a link belt 4300 with a 60' reach, and it could barely lift the bucket with it full of dirt, and in close to the machine....

Don,
Good luck, hopefully your experience will be as positive as mine. (I posted pictures recently of my construction). See if you can get some seat time in the excavator. My pond guy who brought a D6 dozer and a Deere 690 Excavator let me operate the excavator whenever I wanted while he was using the dozer. I have my own backhoe (580D) but that was a real hoot. Look forward to pictures.
