Uprooted a Red Oak the other day, about 18 inches diameter at 2 feet off the ground. No, that's not the new use. I've uprooted trees before.
But then I started cutting the tree into fire wood. No problems starting at the top and working my way towards the root ball until I got within about 8 feet of the roots. Then the sawhorse couldn't keep the the trunk propped up off the ground. The root ball kept trying to roll forward, which tilted the saw horse over. So, approaching from the bottom of the root ball, I used the bucket to pull back on the roots until the trunk was lifted up. Then I was able to finish cutting.
Yes, I kept clear of the root ball in case the hydraulics failed.
