I just got a 2610D and it is great!
(More on that later) I have a
simple question: Which position is 4x4
(lever forward or back) ? How
can I tell it is working? You are hard
pressed to spin a tire, it
seems pretty smooth in both positions.
(none of the 4x4 back-lash I
expected). Other than that it has been
simple as a stick. Should the
Temp light come on when the key is on
(like oil and gen do)? I
actually miss the guages that the 8N
has. Idiot lights scare me. What
tire sizes are typically on these, I
thought I saw 12.4-24 somewhere,
mine has 11.4/10.2 24's. I bush hogged
5ac of 3+ year growth first
time out, no problems. Thanks, MIKE

On my tractor 4wd is in the forward position. To see if it is in 4wd find a steep hill where the tires will loose traction, or try turning it sharply and drop the clutch. You should be able to see the left front tire spin. The idiot lights should come on when you are cranking the engine, that verifies the the bulb still works. Hope this helps

Thanks, I thought I was never going to get a reply (question is up on 3 boards, 1st reply was here, shortest time too). I think I may have been riding around in 4wd. I'm about ready to put it on jack-stands to know for sure. My temp light is off when the key is on (gen + oil are on 'till the engine starts), I'll have to look at it while cranking. Anybody else have any 2610D helpful info? Stickers? (mine has a 2wd hood [no D] I'd like to see the all important D..). Tire sizes? BTW, My starter drive occasionally doesn't engage. Clean it? Replace it? Where to get a new one? Thanks again, MIKE

Hey Mike,

Its good to see you here. I've had a YM1301D, 2 YM1110D's, and a YM1702D. I know the Ym1301D 4x4 is with the lever back, YM1110D's with the lever forward. The only way I know to tell for sure is to pull the tractor up to a big tree so the front bumper is against it, then in low range 1st gear I let the clutch out and watch to see that one of the front tires is digging a hole.

Its crude, but effective.

Any good ideas on how to turbocharge or supercharge a 2 cyl Yanmar???

Greg, I'm glad to finally get a tractor and join in the fun (work?). Funny you should ask about the turbo. I have a good friend with a JD compact that wants to turbocharge his Yanmar engine. If it happens, I'll keep you folks informed. I'll look for a suitable tree and find out about this 4x4 lever position thing. Thanks, MIKE

When I drive down the gravel drive in 4WD the front wheels leave marks. Also the manual steering feels heavier when I'm in 4WD.

I have a YM1610D and took pictures of all of the stickers on the tractor. I e-mail them to a co-worker in Japan and he tells me what they mean. I then edit the picture to explain in english. Here is the one for the FWD lever.

Rich, some of us would be interested to see more of the deciphered stickers you have. Some of the stickers are probably on more than one tractor.

I have a 2610D also, the 4wd lever is forward to activate the 4wd. (just remember it points to the front wheels to make 'em work) I think the 2610 is one of the nicest tractors around. email me if you need more info. reedi@earthlink.net
