You Know You Are Old When

The only way I'll eat a biscuit is with butter and honey. :p
The biscuits at Burger King are pretty good. I get the bacon, egg and cheese biscuits on Sunday mornings, two for $5. Eat one then and the other one on Monday morning.
The bacon biscuits are 100 calories less than the sausage biscuits.

When I was growing up the only fast food was White Castle, little burger with lots of onions.

Later MacDonald's opened up with a big sign claiming how many sold, I can't remember how much they cost.

How was McDonalds cheaper way back then?
When I started going with my friends around 13-4 a Big Mac cost around $0.89-0.99.
Minimum wage was aboot $2.50/hr.
Now a Big Mac is aboot $6.99 around here.
Minimum wage is pushing $18.
If anything it works out a bit cheaper.
I think the relationship between McD's meal cost and minimum wage has not been a straight line, but a series of bumps and dips. You're likely comparing two of the "bumps", while others are remembering the comfortable "dip" in-between.

I've been to them a few times when I've been in the midwest, and for the life of me can't figure out what the appeal is. Yeah, they're cheap-ish, but not much meat in that 1" square burger that's punched full of holes. Most of them seem to be in kinda sketchy neighborhoods, and in every one the service was bad. By comparison McDonald's is almost gourmet food.

They're nothing special today, but they are the first fast-food chain, by a long shot. They basically created the formula by which all other fast food chains developed.

Anyone know why they were all white inside? The owner wanted to show off how clean his restaurants and kitchens were, in a time when their main competition was traditional "greasy spoons" and small taverns... not exactly known for their cleanliness. The name came from the paint job, not the other way around.

White Castle, you either hate them or love them. I buy them from the grocery store.

When I was in California, we were talking about WC's. I said I can order them. I ended up ordering 600 WC's, they came to my desk in a big Styrofoam cooler with dry ice.

I ordered 60 and I gave my favorite female bartender 15. I never paid for another drink in that bar, I would just give her a big tip.

At that time, if you had happy hour you had to provide free food. There's was Mexican and it was pretty darn good.

I was born in the early 70's, my teen years were late 1980's and early 1990's, and the early 90's was admittedly a pretty great time to be a teen. But every time I watch a movie like American Graffiti, or a show like That 70's Show, I realize you guys had it even better. (y)

Of course, we had Taco Bell, in addition to your White Castle. I'd be almost afraid to eat it today, but I could put away a clean six-pack of Taco Bell 69-cent tacos at age 17. :ROFLMAO:

When we started in business (70s) downtown there was a White Castle (equ.) place I could see from my desk about 200ft away. They just celebrated their 90 yr anniversary with 90c hotdogs. We would work at night many times and go there for food (I'm sure it had to be the cheapest ingredients) but sort of addictive.
A guy I worked with used to work there and said he would 'get it on' with one waitress in the kitchen table where they made hamburgers.
One night wife & I saw a large patron fall off a stool dying from a heart attack!
The place was open 24/7 and always busy.
On the other side of us was a small diner that sold beer & food. They had a collection jar on counter labeled "Wine for the Blind".
They had a poster listing people who owed them money. One said "John Haggerty $12.50 (we have his teeth)". I asked & was told he laid his dentures on cigarette machine and owner took as collateral.
From the third floor of my building you could walk across the flat roof and look down on the diner's skylight watching them cook. My building was full of stuff and I found a fishing rod & reel. I went over with a couple friends, lowering line through skylight and re-arranged pots & pans when they had their back turned.
One lady removed her apron and left saying "this place is haunted!".
