How long have you been a member of TractorByNet.com?
Since May 2010 from an internet search, and then my Kubota dealer mentioned TBN too as a source to get info and advice on buying a new tractor. Early on I posted asking TBN members which tractor is the Cadillac/BMW/Mercedes of tractors because I like bells, whistles, and quality. I was directed to Kubota’s Grand L series and after some further research/shopping around, that’s what I got!

What do you like best about TractorByNet.com?
I like that I can ask questions about almost anything and at least get some ideas, advice, and maybe even absolute answers! I posted that I needed to cut off a dead branch about 30′ above ground and somebody posted about a trailer-type man-lift, which I never even knew existed. I rented one and it worked great! And I like that I can login any ol’ time and check for responses to my own posts or just read the latest topics.

What type of tractor do you own?
I own a 2010 Kubota Grand L3940 open station with R4 (industrial) tires and front end loader.

How long have you owned or operated tractors?
About 12 or 13 years total, since I had operated my dad’s Mahindra 4110 from time to time prior to buying my L3940.

What do you enjoy most about tractors?
The brute strength they possess. The capability to do the work of many men or horses. It’s pretty cool to move a lever or push a pedal and cause something huge to happen!

How often do you use your tractor?
Usually only on weekends, since my tractor will continue to “live” in my parents’ barn until I build a new home on our vacant property. After that, who knows, probably weekly for mowing, etc.

Tell us about your property:
Sixty flat acres almost entirely at or below the 100-year floodplain. Forty acres of it is a prairie that is home to some interesting animals: gopher tortoises, cranes which fly overhead, deer (of course), racoons, armadillo, red fox, and possum. The prairie part provides a great sunset viewed from amongst the large oaks of the wooded part of the property.

Tell us about your vehicles (trucks, trailers, ATVs, etc.):
I drive a 2005 Nissan Titan King Cab and also have a 2007 Kawasaki Mule 610, and a 10’x6′ utility trailer.

Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have 3 cats. Two of them are brothers and one calico girl. The two boys don’t like the poor girl, but they tolerate each other anyway.

What sort of modifications or customization have you done to your tractor?
I made a sunshade out of plywood and 2-by lumber, supported by angled steel bars. It’s strong enough to stand on & work from! I added a horn since I drive the tractor on public roads for about 2 miles each time as part of the trip from my parents’ barn to my vacant property. I added a bank of 6 LED flashlights as a poor man’s supplementary forward lighting. It’s too soon to know whether or not they will work out well.

What sort of tools, attachments or equipment do you use with your tractor on a regular basis?
I use a bush hog, grading scraper, post hole digger (auger), and of course the front end loader, for which I got a grapple bottom bucket to lift branches & debris and tear roots & saplings out of the ground. I carry a 5/16″x20′ grade 70 chain with me and a bunch of various tools in the tractor’s long, narrow tool box; It’s surprising how much that seemingly small box can hold!

What do you mainly use your tractor for?
Helping transform our vacant, 60-acre jungle-swamp of a parcel into a future home site on the one slightly high spot, possibly with some farm animals in the future, likely either cows, goats, donkeys, and/or mini horses.

What do you like or dislike about the area you live in?
I like everything about it, except, as always I wish it was even bigger! 10,000 acres would be nice!

It’s on a main state road where traffic passes our driveway at 65 mph, making it a little hairy to slow down quickly from 65 mph in order to turn into your own driveway when people behind you want to continue on at 65 mph and ride your bumper telling you so.

What sort of terrain is common in your area?
Flat, edge-of-swamp prairie, near or below the 100-year floodplain level and jungle full of large hardwood trees just above the floodplain. This area is great for large oak trees and other interesting trees you don’t see much of when you get up and away from the lower areas.

What sort of trees and vegetation are common in your area?
Large live oaks, swamp chestnut oaks, laurel oaks, holly’s, a few pines, palm trees, palmetto bushes, prairie grasses.
