4110 60\" MMM

Last week I recieved delivery of a 4110 with r4s fel and 60 inch mmm. I would like to thank everyone on this site for all the information Iwas able to glean without even asking any questions. I'm sure now that I own one, I'll have many questions. I'd also like to thank you for any input on these. Here's the first question: Have any of you 4110 owners with a 60 inch mmm cut off the front of the center bracket yet; it seems it would be easier to slide in and out of the underneath of the tractor without this part of the bracket which is made for the 4115. Or am I missing something?

Re: 4110 60\" MMM

I consider it every time I install or remove the deck. I recall reading a post some time ago from aTBNer who did just that. I see no reason not to do it unless you think you might want to sell the deck to a 4115 owner.

BTW, I have the mulching kit installed and--even though it requires more cleaning--it does wonders for my sandy soil. I never have to bag or rake. When it is too long, I simply double-cut which only means more seat time. Keep your guide wheels and spindles lubed. Don't be shocked at how much grease the spindles take. On the average, each spindle gets 20-25 pumps every 4 or 5 mowings. I use JD's high-temp grease so there will never be a question if I have problems. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

BigPete,

20-25 pumps? Wow, I've got to double check mine -- I've been putting nowhere near that amount in. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: 4110 60\" MMM

Ah'yup. If you can grease your spindles in a quiet setting (garage, etc.) you can hear the air "crackle" as it is pushed out of the lower races. I stop when I hear crackling. When I remove my grease cups, I do usually have 1/8" or so of grease and crud lining the cup. I never see grease anywhere on the underside of the deck, though, so it seems about right. My JD mechanic verified that it takes a bunch of grease to fill these spindles. At a couple dollars for a tube of premium grease, it's good insurance. Contrary to some myths, you cannot over-grease these types of bearings.

yes, I cut the 4115 extended bracket off. Now the mower deck is so much easier to install and remove. Make sure you purn your front wheels to the left. I used a metabo cut off grinder to do the cutting. I didn't want to use a tnrch. I saved the cut off pieces, just in case.

BigPete,

Thanks, I think I've been under-greasing my deck! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

As long as you didn't hear a high pitched squeal, I think you're safe

If you hear a high-pitched squeal, you are too late /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: 4110 60\" MMM

Does anybody have pics of this "extra" bracket? I looked all over my MMM this morning, and cannot see what you all are talking about /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: 4110 60\" MMM

kennyd,

I don't have a pic so I'll try to give a description, page 6 of the MMM manual shows it if you have that handy - it's the front of the mower that you connect the "front draft rod bracket assembly" to. The "bracket" is on the front of the MMM, basically 2, 1/4 inch pieces of steel that jut straight out, they have 2 sets of curved U-shaped slots. The rear slots are what we use on the 4110, the 'front draft rod bracket assembly' drops into these slots and then you swing the pivot arm (front of the bracket at the front of the tractor) into a spring locked position. The 4115 uses the most forward set of curved U-shaped slots and this is the piece of the mower that - at least for me - always hits the front tires. Means turning the tires all the way to the left and jockeying the mower deck to get around the front right tire or using the FEL to lift the front of the tractor off the ground so this extended bracket misses the tires. Am I making any sense?

Re: 4110 60\" MMM

I had the same question as kennyd. Evidently some of these mowers are differant. Mine only has one set of slots. (although my manual shows both) I wondered why others were complaining about how hard it was to slide the mower out. It would make a differance if that bracket was longer. So, I guess my mower wouldn't fit on a 4115? Jason

Jason'
I guess mine won't fit a 4115 anymore either. I cut the brackets off today and touched up with a little JD green. That should make life easier when I decide to mow again.

Re: 4110 60\" MMM

Third is of the left side.
This deck and tractor are 2 years old this month, so I am not sure if the "extra bracket" is on the newer or older models.

Anybody know how much the mulching kit is for this deck? Is it worth it?

Re: 4110 60\" MMM

The double slot decks are on the newer models. I believe you have the mower deck for the 4100 mounted on your 4110. ...I think

As long as it works /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
