I'm curious, why did you have to use a different method to open up the top hook on the HF QH? Was there a reason you couldn't just grind on it like you did the lower hooks?

OK, I get it.

Although my primary quick hitch on the rear of the machine is an iMatch, I bought a cheapie from HF that I'm planning on using with a quick-attach frame for my front loader that will accept a quick hitch.

So, I bought a HF cheapie to use for that purpose, however, all my attachments are bushed up to CAT 2, so I'll need to open the hooks up (or remove the bushings every time I want to move an attachment around with the front loader, which would be a pain).

I was planning on using a 9 inch angle grinder to open them up.

Better to grind them open than change the bushings every time, with a 9" you may be able to get down in that top hook, not sure of the size of my big grinder but it's not 9"

My HF quick hitch came the lower links which were properly sized for Cat 2 diameter pins, and all is ok with that part of it....but the guides on either side of the "locking wedge" (3/16" steel) needed to be ground away to allow clearance with the pin boss's. Not sure, but it seems different folks have different problems with 'em depending on what they feel like building at the time :confused: and depending on what the implement manufacturer provides. The top link for mine came unexpectedly today (45 days before they told me they would ship it) and with a little fitting just maybe I will get this re-engineered to work on an occasional basis. :rolleyes:

The JD Standard for the pin links on the iMatch is actually CatIII...and the HF Hitch is CatII Link pin sized...

Agreed, I'd open up the HF Hitch to the JD/True SAE Specs...

The whole point of a Specification is to avoid this exact issue..dunno why some companies try to "go out on a limb" and try to reinvent the wheel...

Forget where my supposed quick hitch came from, but I sold it in a farm equipment auction a couple of years ago and haven't missed it.

Yep, me too; done with so-called "quick hitches"!! Done, I tell ye, done! To me, if the thing doesn't work, I don't want it. And, it must work will ALL my very few attachments. As far as the Pat's - no way am I paying $180 for that thing! It appears that it might work becaues it allows the bottom arms to still swing in/out for adjustment, but I have gotten pretty good at hooking things up now. Right, my quick hitch is holding my firewood rack up - by leaning up against it!

I just put it up for sale today, right before I read this post. It's listed cheap!

In my opinion, you would be better to just pour a small level concrete pad to use to back the tractor on, thus, at least alleviating the problem of uneven ground (hmmmm, I think I'll follow my own advice on this one!).

As with most of you that are using the QH I did a little grinding on the QH and a little adjusting on a couple of implements and now I am happy with it. I do fully understand the frustration these things can cause but once you get all things right it is a nice unit. I do not buy any implement without taking good measurements now.
