Quick Hitches Land Pride Quick Hitch

I didn't look when I bought my quick hitch and ended up with the cat. 2 unit, so instead of buying a bunch of bushings I just changed all the pins so I didn't have to worry about the clevis's popping off and loosing the bushings.

A CAT I QH is considerably different width at the lower hooks than a CAT II. My CAT I QH measures 28.75" outside hook to outside hook. My CAT II measures 36.75" outside hook to outside hook.

If your attachments are CAT I and the QH you bought is the correct width, I think you actually bought a CAT I QH, but as I said above it has CAT II size hooks so bushings can be used. If you converted your pins to CAT II so it would snuggly fit you have created no easy wear point. May never be an issue for you depending on amount of use and how heavy the load is you are pulling/carrying.

did all the cat 2 pins fit in the cat 1 holes where you mounted them on the implement? I thought of buying all cat 2 (or 3???) lower pins and replacing all my cat 1 pins, as it would be a lot cheaper, but I don't want to drill out all the holes on my implements.

Hmmmm,,, good point. I've never saw a CAT II pin with a CAT I sized threaded end. Not saying they don't make em, just ain't seen em.

I do believe you are right, they are cat. 1 and yes i did put cat II pins on, and no i am not using everything or anything on an ongoing basis so the worst situation would be I do wear down the pins and eventually have to replace a few. I was using bushings (6 different attachments) and it would knock the clips loose and then the bushing worked its way off. I did see another post with a fix and that looked good but I switch attachments often but don't use them for continuous use.

I just went to the farm supply, (orschelms) and bought all new lower pins the right thread size. I did still use bushings on the top link.

Cool. I don't think the wear issue is anything to worry about. If on the other hand you were hitching up a 3pt heavy tillage attachment and using it 100s or hours over a decade or two, you should probably use bushings!!! Not many. of us here on this website that fit in that category.

You're gonna love using your QH

I have a couple Cat I pin implements (cable/pipe layer, single ripper and trailer coupler)that I used longer pins and adapters on for my Cat II QH. It WILL give you enough room for it to slide out of a Cat II hitch. Don't ask me how I know! :ashamed:

Dave, just to clarify, you referring to a cat 1 implement, with longer pins, used on a cat 2 QH that can fall off right?

Whereas Bruce is saying that the cat 1 implements can't fall off the cat 1 QH? I'll have a cat 1 quick hitch so I'm hoping I can just use regular (cheaper) bushings and not worry about it falling off.
No, it can't fall off. The QH hook against the frame on the other side prevents it. You don't even need the locking pins, except to keep the bushings on.

Bruce

The good part though, is that most of my implements are clevis style anyways and cat 2 adaptable.

The larger lower pin is an excellent idea, I will probably just go that route instead of dealing with the bushings. I didn't realize the threaded rod end was the same (or available) for a cat 1 implement vs cat 2, so that is even better. I wonder if they have cat 3 pins with the threaded rod of a cat 1 pin?

Richard,
I respectfully disagree that it has anything to do with wear. I could certainly be wrong of course, but disagree with that. I called Landpride yesterday with some of the questions I had posted on here. I talked to them for quite a while regarding the bushings and whether or not my box blade will work. They never mentioned anything about wear points, but did address why they had bushings in the first place. I asked so many questions that I don't really remember the reason, but it didn't have anything to do with wear. It had more to do with the industry not having an "exact" standard regarding category 1,2, and 3 implements. Only until relatively recently, did companies start really sticking with the standard spacing, which is why some implements do, and don't, work with the quick hitch.
I'm sure they could explain it better than me if you are interested.

I will have the same problem you mentioned with your box blade, and the quick hitch. He said the hook won't come up far enough to engage the top pin on the box blade, and that I would have to modify the box blade to get it to fit, which I will do. He did say that the rake and blade I have will fit. I also called Woods and they said the power rake should be quick hitch compatible too. So at least 3 of my implements should match up with no mods.

I'm going to look into changing the lower link pins. You guys that did it, do you notice any "slop" in your quick hitch with the cat 2 pins? Do you use cat 2 to 3 bushings to fit the quick hitch?

The landpride rep said that the quick hitch lower hooks are 1.5" inside diameter, whereas the cat 2 pin diameter is 1-1/8". Cat 3 is is 1-7/16". From what he said, the proper "spacer" for the lower link pins would be a cat 1 to cat 3 spacer bushing to provide a more rigid fit.

I am beginning to see why the "doubters" of quick hitches, doubt they're "quick" nature! However, I can see how once I do take the time to get all my implements setup, it will certainly be worth it....I hope.:D

I went though every attachment and set them up so that they would all fit right. I even had to make an upper extension bracket on one of them so it would clear. I then made 3/4" treated plywood benches and block setups so that they all had a place to be parked. my grapple, bucket, and forks had to be set up higher so that I could see over the hood to make quick attach hookup. I have added cameras front and rear so I can see down low, like the pallet forks, now I can actually see the tips of the forks going into a pallet. I can also get a good look at the pto shaft on the back without twisting my neck out shape.
