Gary so you think running thru with just middle tooth down first might get me thru some bigger root's???

I always run with all shanks down and in 4WD without any problems and have hit many roots.

I bought KK not only because it was well made, but also because I live 15 miles from the factory and was able to take my trailer over to pick it up without any shipping charge.

Your L3200 likely has a bit under 24HP at the drawbar.
The Ford 1710 has 20.48 drawbar HP.
Thus you have almost 4 more HP, and BigDog1956 may have different soil conditions as well.
It is quite possible that he will not be able to keep all shanks down.

That may be true, but I would think my clay here, which is like concrete in the summer when it gets dried out, is very hard on any ground working implement.

You can certainly pull deeper and stronger with only one. You can try it with all of them, but with only 20 drawbar HP and it looks like your have turf tires, you are not going to have a lot of traction.
Do some experimenting for your best solution and go with that. It might be one, two or all of them down depending on the ground compaction, type of soil and the size of roots.

You are right about the location though, center of tractor and work outward as you add the extra teeth.

IMG_1643.jpgI have found this attachment to work best for digging out objects from underground. At my place these objects are medium to large clusters of rocks. With all 5 shanks down and pulling with the shank bar dragging the ground, it will stall my LS if I hit a big cluster of rocks. So far the shanks on this thing have held strong but not so lucky with the box blade. I sheared off several of them before I got this piece of equipment.

Gary thank's a bunch, well it's KK on the way, and your right with HP & Turf tires I'll prob start my first trial with middle 3 cutter's down, I don't have your clay issue, but I'm sure I have some good root's to deal with and a huge rock or boulder I'll have to figure out.

Bigdog, it sounds like you have a good idea of what to try. All I was trying say, is to try everything until something works.
Gary is probably right about the Turf tires, you will find yourself spinning the tires most of the time when you hit something.
