Horsepower requirement for offset harrow

You can actually turn left with an offset disk and not raise it with the wheels, it naturally comes out of the ground and then settles back to cut as soon as you straighten out. We used to cut our fields in a square circular pattern when using an offset disk and the only furrow we had was when we ended up in the middle of the field on the last pass and had to cut our way back to the end.

Offsets seem to cut much better than tandem disk but it takes a lot more power to pull them.

Well I bought one , we'll see how she does here in a few weeks, seems to be well made.View attachment 505655

That's a good looking offset disk.. I'm considering buying a used deere 8'3" with 20 inch disks. My soil is very dry/arid and very little clay if none so I think I'll be able to pull it pretty well. It's worth the chance..I can make a pretty good deal on it. If she struggles, I can always raise the tires or remove the outside discs.. Pulling with a M6060...

That's a heavy looking disc that you are looking at, but you are exactly right in the fact that you can let the wheels down a little bit and take some strain off of you're tractor. Is you're tractor 4x4?

That's a great looking disk. I have been on the hunt for a similar disk at farm auctions and CL. I looked back through the thread and wasn't able to find the brand.

Thanks.

Industrias America brand, it appears to be built off of the John Deere MX 425 offset disc , the reason I went with it was the fact that I was able to purchase it for less than $3k and I couldn't even get a 7.5' three point hitch model for anywhere close to that price. Google Industrias America and I know there is a dealer in Oklahoma that handles them, it is made in Mexico but I think you will be quite surprised at how well they are built, I wanted an American made harrow but I could not justify paying over 10k for one.

Fortunately enough the tongue on this harrow is long enough to keep that from happening, but I was concerned about enough that I tried every scenario the first day I used it just to be on the safe side, but when turning right if you let it down before you have it straight behind the tractor the disc dig in bad and put a strain on everything, turning to the left does work much better.

I'm glad to hear that they are putting longer tongues on them now to remedy that problem. Congrats on the new tool. An offset will do 10 times the work a tandem will do.
