Just picked this up yesterday.

Broke a u joint along the way home and had to limp the last 100 miles up and down some nasty passes.

I hope it was worth it.

What are your thoughts on BEFCO? I'm also curious what you think it's worth. 00W0W_dwQ1nQWeHjK_1200x900.jpg01515_e2AL1TvZQf_1200x900.jpg20180419_185835.jpg20180419_185829.jpg

I had a similar Alamo mower, maybe a bit larger at 16 feet. I towed it home behind my Dodge Dakota 6cyl truck about 70 miles.

When I tried to sell it, it was not that easy. I thought since they were fairly scarce I could make a buck. As it was, I had used it for ten years and basically got my money back. Listed at 6K CDN, went down to 4500 and sold it for 4K CDN.

If I had to do it again, I would get one with bigger castor wheels, which don't disappear down a ground hog hole.

I've been reading that the tiny casters were the weak link for this model, good to know for next time. I paid $2,400 USD for it. It belonged to a small college and it was a winter project for their shop class to get it all fixed up. It still needs a new seal or 2 and a hose, but otherwise it's in great shape.

Here it is all hooked up to my rig. I really should have just hauled it with the isuzu. It desperatley needs all of its fluids changed though.20180420_111040.jpg

I had a little 5 foot BEFCO finish mower and it was the best finish mower I have ever used. And I had a couple. The BEFCO gave a better cut, and never gave any trouble. It went when I traded off the tractor and all my implements. A BIG mistake.

By the way, I was told that BEFCO stood for Best Equipment Farmers Can Own.

I have a BEFCO 48" 3ph offsetting tiller that's likely 25 years old and still runs smooth with no chatter...FWIW...

It's a rush cutting that much grass in one pass. The sound of all those decks is like Music for the Ego! Mine had really stupid 1/2" reverse thread blade bolts that would shear off when hitting a ground hog hole. You would have to drill out the bolts. They cost like $7.00 a piece at the time and you could loose three in ten minutes of cutting. Finally I had a bunch of bolts made for me and changed the castor mounting arms to a straight configuration to raise my ground clearance. These things were not really meant to cut farm fields.

Years ago, I got my buddy a used Befco 5 foot flail mower. He regrets he let it go with a tractor he sold.
