Last night at work, while reading in the welding section, I was looking back at some of my previous attachments and posts on this forum, and I realized that I never posted any pictures of the woodhauling trailers that we have built.

Whenever we do a project like this, we like to take pleanty of pictures along the way to illustrate the build. It may help some of you out in the future if you like building things yourself. Feel free to steal any Ideas:thumbsup:

And if you are wondering why They are built the way they are, or are wondering why we didnt use "this instead of that", well, its because both of these were built with scrap steel we already had. I am a hoarder:laughing: I dont throw away ANY usable steel, no matter how small. Except for drill shavings. I havent found a good use for them yet:laughing:

Anyway, on to the pics. There are MANY.

The first pic shows the frame tacked to the axle. The frame rails are 3" x 5" x 3/8" angle. it already had the one cross peice and the flat plate on it. It was a skid that a robot was delivered on where I used to work. We saved it for just this purpose:D

The last couple are some shots of welds. They are a little blurry (camera phone). 7014 with the AC welder

Dana 44 front for an axle. With 35x12.50 tires for easy rolling through the woods:thumbsup:

We welded a peice of angle to the drag link and then to the frame to keep the tires straight.

On to the next trailer.

Donor axle was a Dana 60. But we wanted a wider trailer, so we cut the differential out and widened it a bit.

Hey,
Nice trailer, very much like one we use here for firewood and hauling moose out of the mountains. Is that a 3/4 ton axle? Just wondering why you didnt cut the rear end out and join the axles with pipe. The axles dont really do anything except transmit torque to the hubs.

Hey, sorry about that. Some of your post didnt come up initially, I see you did cut the axle out. It looks so much like ours...

Some more shots. This is all I got so far. This trailer currently has a flip up end gate. We have yet to put sides on it. We dont use it that much cause we have the other two trailers, but we had the steel so we built it anyway.

Well, thats about all I got:thumbsup:

I do want to post some links to my other projects that I have shared on here as well in the past. Kinda for my benefit to have them all in one place for future reference.

Feel free to ask any questions. And comments are always welcome, good OR bad.

Very nice trailer. Did you build it yourself?? How big is it?

I forgot to mention, the first trailer I posted is 4'6" x 9' long and 30" sides

That second one is 7' wide and 11' long

You sure used some nice axles for those trailers, almost seems a shame. Just add a motor and Xfer case and tranny and it would be a ride on self propelled trailer! How about really getting trick and (on the first trlr) cut that drag link loose and tie it to a small hyd cyl. and you could really sneak the thing thru the woods LOL! Nice job!

It's all about what we had avaliable. I actually had a couple of D60 rears and D44 fronts. Tried to sell em for $100 each and no one wanted them:mad: So I held onto them and decided to put them to good use:thumbsup:

I like the cylinder Idea though, but maybe next time. I dont have rear remotes on my tractor, not to mention there isnt enough room for the tire to turn.

If you happen upon a Dana 60 front end with a drivers side axle intact PM me lol. Theyre rare as rocking horse poop.

Great Job!!!! The Ground Clearance is great, so it should be a breeze to tow in the woods. Nice BF Goodrich's Too:thumbsup: BTW, Where are the rops on the L3400??

He removed them for his own reasons. Those are some really nice trailers, I wish i had some thing like what you have but I only have to transport the split wood about 60 feet right now to the stacks and stock pile the logs at "base camp" with my grandpa's skid steer loader. :)

If I happened upon one of them, I would NOT make a trailer out of it. Even a passenger side drive. Worth too much for a lowly trailer axle:D

Yep, No Rops. Dont need no stinking rops. Just got to know how to opetare. All the rops do is get hung up on trees and garage doors. Nothing like mowing and ducking under a branch only to have the rops grab it and smack you in the back of the head with it. And for the record, the seat saftey switch has been disabled as well. There are times I like to stand up when operating. Like FEL work and bushhogging. Better visibility:thumbsup:

And yes, with the 35" tires, they tow VERY nicely through the woods. The ground clearence and floatation of the tires are awesome.
