Here is something I made a long time ago to hold onto a small screw in tight places to poke it through a hole.

That's interesting. Kind if like an extension of human fingers. Pretty neet.

A handy tool, and no welder or power tools needed to make it.




Find a wire soap dish. This took the longest. No stores had them new. Success was at Goodwill.





Turn the dish over so the feet stick up, like a dead cow in the comics.





Now you can see what it holds.





Two of them in a tool box drawer, loaded. I probably have too many files.

Nice Bruce,

I love re-purposing already made things too.

...and there is no such thing as too many files- unless you can't get into the tool box because they jammed up the drawer- which your re-purpose negates.

2" Square tube bender

2" Square tube bender using my wood splitter. You can see my first attempt with my push die it crushed the sq tube but my second push die did much better. I do need to make a 3rd die improvement with a larger radius. I used this to make my ATV log arch

This great old thread seems to have fallen by the wayside. I am posting a minor contribution to bring it back. I learned a lot from the entries.

Photo 1 - A pile of deck railing posts. Each post needs two bolt holes in exactly the same place, and in alignment with the code required tensioning bracket.

Photo 2 - This simple jig took a few minutes to make. Using a thin center punch in the guide holes makes a good mark on the post that is easy to see and helps the bit get started in the right place. The jig can be used for both right hand and left hand setups.

When we worked on aircraft our trick was to wrap tape on a finger tip sticky side out and stick the machine screw or nut on the tape.
Worked just fine.
