Mostly scrap built (but still awesome) land plane

This will only be put together once the snow's gone, but I've been gathering parts and recently started doing some fab work, so couldn't help but start a thread.

It's going to be 4'X4', 2X8 C channel runners, 4" pipe crossmembers (filled with sand), Zamboni blade adjustable from 0-1", manual adjustable with two trailer jack mounted casters, operator's seat (for operating the jacks)

Here's the sketch I used to explain to my neighbor (Colin) how it's going to work LOL

I bent that piece with my mini maul most of the way and held it with an 1/8" gap with the bench vice while I welded it. Capped the end with some 1/4"






I don't think I'll bother tapering the back edge...

Pipes notched to fit over the channel


That's it for now, but the plan is to have everthing ready for final assembly in the spring. I'm thinking it's going to weigh around 300lbs, and Colin will make it 480lbs.

Good start. I built this one day for shaving off gopher mounds.

Cheap and cheerful but works well for the purpose.

Sequoias if you build one of these you can get rid of your gophers instead of just knock down their mounds.

Bought the other C channel and 4" angle iron. So I'm in the $120 range so far;

$46 channel
$20ish angle (I'll have to look at the slip again)
$50 two jacks

Cut to length and mocked up

I'm watchin'. I have fun following all your projects, but I haven't responded much. I appreciate you sharing, and I'll bet a lot of others do too, but are just kind of silently watching you work without saying much...
