Today, after using the backhoe to lift and lower 10+ granite steps for an exterior stairway, it's clear that wrapping the chain around the bucket, is not the best method of chain attachment.

For those of you with backhoes, where have you attached chain hooks or D-rings to your buckets?

Thanks:

Check out this link please see all the photos this might give you some ideas other than trying to figure out where to weld a hook onto the bucket. I could never figure out if / where or if I should weld anything onto the BH bucket so I took a different approach.

Shortened Long Link

MikePA: Cleaned up long URL. Please review your message before posting it. It's simple not to do this. Just insert a descriptive word or two between the {url=http://whatever}Enter words here{/url} instead of the entire URL. Replace parentheses {} with square brackets in previous example.

Alternatively, if you use the Instant Markup language URL link, the first prompt is for the URL. The second prompt is for a description. Do not simply paste in the URL again. Type a short description of the link.

I added this one to my bucket recently. The chain you can see in the photo predates my owning a welder; not as handy as the hook 'cause it has to be so short to stay out of the way that it's hard to hook the chain.
I had to cut away part of the clevis on the hook to get it to be flat enough on the plate for my amatuerish welding.

Walt, I welded on a 3/8" clevis grab on our L-39 in the exact same place shown in the photo attachment of the excavator bucket, works great.

Just happen to be reading this forum today, and saw your reply.
I ended up welding a D-ring to the top-inside edge of the bucket.
It's been 3 months without it interfering with digging etc., as well as being as stable lift point.
If I had mounted any on the outside rear of the bucket as shown, that would interfere with removing the backhoe.
The bucket lies flat in that position on the ground when the backhoe is off. (L-39)

Hey Walt, here's where I welded on a 3/8" clevis hook onto the L-39 backhoe.
