Well - got the problem fixed. After many hours of work and thought - nothing seemed to work. As I was putting the top back on the trans for the last time - I decided to inspect the vent tube one more time. I had "cleaned" it out witha small wire - but not removed it. I found that it is threaded - not pressed in. Guess what - clogged up all the way with mud from a small wasp (or dirt dauber). Cleaned all that %@#* out - and guess what. Lift works great.
Thanks for all the tips guys - that is what lead me to fixing this problem. Garden is tilled - so all is well in North Georgia.
Thanks again,
Mike
I too have an l245 with a 3pt. lift that hasn't worked in about a year. I assumed I needed a new pump because I thought I burned out the old one. It slowed before it stopped. I then cleaned the filter screen and changed the fluid but no luck.
You mentioned a cone-shaped screen. I only know of the cylinder screen that is hidden on the left side below the seat. Is there another? Also, any chance you can point out where the vent tube is? I think that is right under the seat somewhere isn't it?
I guess I have been reluctant to start pulling things out and messing with them because I have no experience with hydraulic systems, but I should probably start if I want to get things running again. Are there any newbie mistakes that I should avoid?
After reinstalling the pump, how many minutes has the pump ran. I there a way to add some hyd fluid to the pump. Normally, a gear pump doesn't need priming.
