Still deciding on size, looking at L series

Thanks for all the help in the past posts on size questions, I am looking at a
L2900, would this be adequate for a 6' bush hog, and lifting round bales of hay w/ a front end loader/hay spear? Also, the L series has does not have the QI valve and the issue with 3 pt hitch dropping, correct? Thanks

Thanks, except i didn't see where it mentions about the bush hog and that is for a 2800, not 2900, I am assuming all the l series are position control but you know what they say about assuming....and yes, I'm :confused2: .....thanks for pointing that out...

I'm using a BB60 Woods "Brush Bull" on my L3700SU. It is considered their medium duty model but I cleared a 2 acre field I hadn't touched for 4 years and it was knocking down 3 inch saplings although it is rated for only 1.5 inch saplings.

The 60 inch Woods brush bull is easily handled by the L3700SU with no slowing down in even the thickest brush. I think you would have no problems with it your target tractor even with the lower HP.

L2900 is 25 pto hp... what kind of stuff are you planning to cut? Most say 5 hp / foot of cutter... And with lifting round bales, how big are they since it might be marginal for that, too.

Are you looking at the older L2900's or are you looking at the new L2800's. Either way, there is not much difference.

The 3PH issue you are refering to is the quarter-inching valve. You can do a search for that. It just makes very precise 3PH work difficult as it is jumpy when only trying to raise slowly/ or just a little bit. Not much of an issue when mowing or bushhogging, tilling etc. But grading, and post hole digging, or lifting something with a boom pole are more challenging.

As for the size, a 6' is pushing it on the l2800 sized maching. Most people use the 5'. It will lift it just fine and have HP ro run it, but it is a lot of weight far back when making a turn. I have heard it refered to as the tail wagging the dog. And unless you leave the loader on (which makes manuvering difficult) or add a lot of weight up front, It will be a willy popping machine. Which makes grades, and truning sharp almost impossible.

As to the FEL lifting bales with a spear, that is almost a definate NO. Unless they are really light and small bales in the 600lb range. Full sized 1000-1500lb bales on the FEL are going to require a machine a couple of sizes bigger. Like the M's or the larger ~50HPish GrandL's. But bales on the 3PH with a spear shouldn't be a problem if you dont have to unload or stack.

Look at the PTO horsepower specification and decide if the 25HP will spin a hog. In my opinion, I'd want a little more power for the 72" hog. I'd consider a 60" hog for that range of power.

The lift capacity is, what it is. I would assume one would consider the weight of a roll of hay. I can only think that varies a lot. Check the lift capacity specs.

Also, the 6 foot rotary mower will be wider than the tractor. The 5 foot is just about the width of the tractor. This is something you might want to think about as well as the fact that a 6 foot mower might drive the tractor on occasion.

A 6' hog on an L2900 is probably going to end up going slower/taking longer than a 5' hog on that tractor. You'll make better time with the 5-footer, if you follow me.

If you really have your heart set on running a 6' hog, I think you need a more powerful tractor. You were looking at some 'larger' models, no?

I don't know about the round bales, but I use a 6' Land Pride on my L5030 and wouldn't want to use it on a tractor that was very much smaller/lighter; not saying it can't be done, I just wouldn't.
