L5030 HSTC
Model Year: 2006
I bought this tractor used, and it is evident that it was used regularly on a working farm prior to my purchase. The loader has quite a bit of wear in the pivot pins, which I was surprised at with only 1200 hours. We have primarily used this to cut grass (16 acres) and move round bales for our horses. The hydrostatic transmission has worked well, and makes it easy for my wife to drive, which has been a big positive. It also makes loader operations (changing directions) very easy. She also really likes the cab when cutting, which prevents a lot of the dust and debris from blowing in her face. My only complaint about the cab is it makes it difficult to look over the nose during loader operations, as you can't lean forward or raise up in the seat to improve visibility without hitting your head on the overhead console. The hood over the engine is just high enough that visibility in front of nose and the loader is obstructed. The smallish size of the tractor has also been good for us. It easily fits through the horse gates, and even with the cab is short enough that I can drive it into my conventional garage for storage (7 1/2 foot high door). There is a faint clicking noise in the transmission differential area, but I don't know whether this is normal for these tractors or not. The rear tractor PTO output housing gets quite hot during mowing operations. We've been able to pick up and move large round bales quite easily, though I think more stability would be provided by adding some weight with a 3 point hitch attachment. It has gotten very light on the rear on a couple of occasions with the larger bales, and my mowing deck is not a sufficient counterbalance (I have only air in the tires). The 4 wheel drive has been helpful in muddy fields when moving the round bales. Overall we are very pleased with the tractor. It starts readily even in cold weather, it has been simple to operate, and reliable so far.
Pros: Hydrostatic transmission, power, lifting capability, 4WD, small size.
Cons: Visiblity over the nose with the cab.
