After only 4 hours of work the excavator sprung a hydraulic leak, so it was back to working the L39 hard.

The excavator feeding the L39 operated by my wife should get some material moved once it’s fixed.

PS That's a 2100 - 2500 lb Rock in the bucket. Granite weighs 160 LBS Cu-Ft.

I am running about 2900 PSI hydraulic pressure with a 1 pint accumulator off the main pump to reduce hydraulic shock loads when carrying such a load over a bump. Note a JD 110 runs 3000 PSI so I doubt you hurt anything but the warrantee.

It is best to use a calibrated gage if you crank up the pump pressure.
To get 2900 lbs (at least on my L39) this has been my experience.
Only go 1/3 turn on the relief valve spring. The diesel at idle should not slow to the point of almost stalling with any hydraulic function. If you lift the rears off the ground even on an unweighted machine, you have way too much pump pressure. One tire lifting off with offset load is ok on an unweighted machine.

My +1100 extra lbs weight also keep me safer and stable. I strongly recommend adding about 1000 lbs weight.

Great photos, Mike. Seems like the L39 takes it in stride.

What are you doing with the rocks? Looks like you have plenty.

Mike,

Once again - nice pictures!
What are the factory settings for PSI compared to your 2900?
Has this helped the weak curl at extremes you've mentioned?

My L39 is due to be delivered Thursday. The dealer is a couple hrs. away. Since I had to work out of town for a couple days and was heading that way I stopped by the dealer to check on prep status and discuss a couple additional options.

I noticed you don't have a toothbar on your FEL bucket. Looks like a cutting edge though. Your Grapple is pretty heavy duty so maybe that meets that need if you have one. Anyway, I decide to go ahead and get a removable one since it's the only thing I didn't get with my deal that I thought I needed. Going to be clearing and moving dirt quite a bit here initially. Would of liked the Hydraulic Thumb but couldn't justify it as a need.

Back to the Hydo PSI. Would you recommend uping the PSI initially? Would the dealer do it or is there a warranty issue. What cost are associated with it?

The blast pile is sitting on the future foundation and driveway site. They will eventually be used for our oun retaining walls and the rest sold to landscapers.

Nice setup and pics!

It always amazes me just how much work the little 40HP L-39 can do on a gallon of diesel fuel.

I think it is 2750 PSI, Dealer should know and check these with calibrated gages that you have say 2800 psi at delivery.

Not a lot. The linkage design is what kills curl. Back curl is wakest. The CBL40 has better curl.

Cutting edge is standard at least it was two years ago.

Same here. Nice on the excavator though

Have the dealer check the factory setting and have them on the strong side. (2800 psi.) An extra 50 or 100 psi makes a difference as it takes pressure just to initally lift an empty bucket and loader.

Would the dealer do it or is there a warranty issue.

Yes, there a warranty issue but the dealer ought to know he can set the pressures a bit on the high side without issue. You are loading the tires and Kubota says not to to that also.

Wait 2 years before you mess with the pressures furthur.

What cost are associated with it?
None, This ought to be part of any dealers decent prep.

That 10’ hoe is amazing. Not as fast or as versatile as an excavator, but for the size of the machine, wow!

I wish I had a 4 in bucket as well as the grapple.

Mike,

Do you sell the rocks by their approximate weight or overall dimensions?

As a fellow NH resident, I think our acreage can produce a fair number of landscape boulders as well. I'd be interested in knowing how to price some of them. We'll use some of the rocks [and already have] for our gardens and walls, but certainly not all of them.

Many Thanks!
The Gardener

P.S. That's a great tandem: an excavator and an L39.

Re: Price of rocks.

Someday I will pretend to need to buy rocks. I will say I will pick them up myself and see what price per ton I am given.

I fiqure if I get 25% of that price, it works for me as the cost is moving them.

I will contact landscape companies and rock wall builders.

Good plan. Thanks!

I hadn't considered the possibility that there might be a local demand for some of our extra boulders and rocks. We certainly have plenty to sell.
